South African Police Service Reviews

Excellent learning curve

Every morning I received new cases that's need to be attended immediately and give report back to my commander. Most of the fraud cases they take long to investigate because we have to liaison with the banks for more information. Nevertheless, I have to report what I have done within 24hrs. I'm very outgoing person and I get along with everyone at work. I also participate in organizing team buildings parties. From the Police I have learnt to work as a team, interact with others. I enjoy interacting with other people outside the police environment. Sharing ideals for the same goal. The most challenging aspects that I have encountered is a lack of resources. Sometimes the are no cars available to do investigation and limited access. We alway have to ask private companies to help mostly with profiles.

Pros: Reasonable benefits
Cons: We stay many years on the same salary level

Team Player

I have been work for Saps for more than 10 years. I worked at Csc for 5 years and moved from crime prevention to sector policing, crime office as a detective and finally Joined the North West Tactical Response Team for six years now. My job is not challenging anymore. Im currently a section commander doing managerial duties. So im looking for a challenging job.

Pros: In the TRT we do the same thing always.
Cons: There is lack of promotions and Money is not sufficient for person with responsibilities.A person cant but a car of a decent house with salary offered by Saps.

Excellent

My passion is transforming companies and playing a vital role in the development of the company’s progress. I am a self-motivated & intelligent woman; I have excellent team working skills, as well as discipline to work extremely well on my own. I am a hardworking & ambitious individual, and based on my qualifications, skills, achievements and experience over the years, I believe I have a lot to offer for this company.

Pros: Going to the office even if it's after hours, just to cover up on my work
Cons: Working nights and weekends, though they don't pay for those days and hours

Being a policemen makes one learn to adapt to different kinds of situations.

Being a policemen is an enjoyable job. We start each day by looking at challenges experienced, and we also plan how to approach the day as a team. For the past eight years I have learnt that everyday brings new challenges, experiences and opportunities to learn something new. Even though it can at times be dangerous, Its a fulfilling job. I enjoy enforcing the law and trying by all means to reduce crime. I arrest lots of criminals and I enjoy testifying in court. I always feels good when a criminal is being brought to book for offences committed. The hardest thing for me is seeing people who are less experienced, with less knowledge and qualifications climb through the ranks, when most often, those deserving are left behind and very frustrated. There is no recognition of qualification at all. The love for the job and making a difference keeps me going. I really love my job.

Pros: The job makes a person more open minded.
Cons: Poor recognition of good service

Ex Police Captain: JM Deysel

I am a quick learner and was in the SAPS for longer than 23 years. I've resigned in 2013. I was a field training officer and did a course as mentor and a assessment course. I was a Captain in the SAPS at the Detective Branch. I've trained various new students. I am computer literate and is bilingual and can read and write English and Afrikaans fluently. Since 2013 I worked for myself and if accepted for this position, I would be immediately available.

Pros: I would be available immediately and would be a great worker. I am willing to learn anything to better myself for this position.
Cons: None

APPLICATION FOR CLOSE PROTECTION OR SECURITY MANAGEMENT POST

VIP PROTECTION GIVES YOU AN IDEA ON HOW TO PROTECT PRESIDENT, DEPUTY PRESIDENT, MINISTERS AND THEIR DEPUTIES, STARTING FROM THE OFFICE. HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE PA'S AND HOW TO REACT WHEN A CONVOY OR A CAR OF THE VIP IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND HOW TO PROTECT THE VENUE AND THE PLACES WHERE YOU SHOULD PLACE YOUR VIP FOR SECURITY REASONS.

Pros: EXCELLENT DEPARTMENT TO WORK IN
Cons: LOT OF WORK THAT NEEDS OVERTIME

Good Learning Curve

A typical day at the work starts with me engaging with management ans line function employees to enquire regarding development need and sharing information regarding courses that is available . Engaging with fellow employees on daily basis have given me the opportunity to build good solid work relationships. My involvement in mentoring also added a great deal to the good relationsjhips i share with fellow employees. The main reason I choose to work in this enviroment was to learn. In the past eleven years working in HRD I still Learn every day. I have learned how to interact with with fellow colleques and gained fast knowledge when it comes to my work. I have a passion for training and to see growth in someone after training is most rewarding and enjoying. The current challenges I experience is working with a Manager that is not knowledgable of the work.

Pros: promotion possibilities
Cons: availability of resources

Very fast learner

Its very challenging to work for SAPS(South African Police Services) people expect magic that they see on TV/ Movies, once one has opened the case they expect the results soon eg: the suspect to be arrested right there and then, they expect the police to pay back their lost items. The public thinks EVERYBODY that works at SAPS is a Police Officer😂 even blame you for any faults. Working relationship with co workers is very important I end up knowing each and everyone's handwriting, their persal number by heart and their weaknesses as far as work is concerned. I'm very strict towards them they know me what is expected especially on the statements because I'm the one who puts an information on the system. I have learnt that people are different behaviour, personalities and being active at work. I enjoy my work it has taught me accuracy, speed and to work long hours with a smile because I work with the community for 12 hrs a day.

Pros: It takes time to be promoted especially when you're doing admin work
Cons: 12 hrs a day
