South African Breweries Reviews

Great Life trainer

Working in this business has taught me a lot about life in general. It taught me how you need to be able to adapt to new situations, pick up knowledge quickly while working in new environments and always staying learning. I moved from sales to corporate after my first 4 years with the business. My 4 years in sales were spent learning a lot about sales and leading people in the direction you want. The time I have spent is CA has been about curtailing all that knowledge to my new job and selling the business, not just our products. Mostly I enjoy the interactions with the different people, even though some are harder than most. A down side would have to be the manner upper management has handled our recent merger. Not enough clarity and linking new direction to real life for me. But mostly the lack of clarity is my issue. I have always found people follow easier when the way is mapped out in its entirety, rather than small chunks. This is not a universal truth, but it worked for me in most cases

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion
Cons: uncertainty about business direction

The day to day

Target setting monthly and weekly. Manage customer queries and account. Manage Brand Campaigns by implemeting them on a timely bases. I have learnt to definitly under promise and over deliver on a consistent bases. Most challenging aspec of the job would be managing other aspects of the business (deliveries, stock control, and Credit) that is out of your control but keeping the customer satisfied at the same time. As we are the face of the business its important to manage the clients expectations.

Pros: Always Busy.
Cons: Long working hours

Big company that under pays its employees

It used to be interesting until SAB was bought by AB-Inbev, on a typical day I run two processes at once, running two different brands which is not really challenging but really has a lot of work involved. You have to analyse the quality of the beer of two brands at calculated intervals while at the same time monitoring the processes to make sure they both don't fail. I have a good relationship with my co-worker within the work place and outside of work. I have learnt a lot honestly, I am a very good team player whose always keen to help people, I have also learnt good communication skills and how to build relationship with other people. The most challenging aspect of the job uhm the is nothing really just a lot of work expected from people depending on which area you find yourself in.

Pros: growth opportunities
Cons: under pays employees

Meritocracy focused

Leading 7 reps in a fast paced, high pressured enviroment. Duties revolve around managing sales KPI execution of the team, spending time in trade reinforcing customer relationships, formulating annual, quarterly and monthly plans, leading and managing rep's careers. I have learned to work under oressure, leadership and communication skills. I have also learned how important meritocracy is, hard work will always yield results and rewards. I enjoy leading people and executing team concieved plans. The innovative nature of the business always keeps work interesting. Learning how to lead was challenging, motivating 7 people to work towards the same goal requires patience and consistancy.

Pros: Many opportunities for growth
Cons: No work life balance

Learning and Development

We are introducing a new way of doing work called DPO which requires our employees to change their way of thinking and working. My typical day will start by doing all admin for the morning and then going to the warehouse to conduct DPO training sessions for operators on key policies, performance evaluation, key performance indicators and processes indicators. As well as executing training for managers which is called DPO for leaders. Challenge that I've been facing is the generational gap among the employees which has led to team conflicts. The generational gap was evident and it needed to be addressed. Seeing that the problem was across the regiona a regional fun day was planned to boost team morale and team cohesion and it has worked out to be the best. I enjoy training and development and equipping all employees with knowledge to do their work as best as they can.

Pros: Global Company
Cons: Not embracing diversity and inclusion

Excellent learning experience

Working at SAB taught me a lot about how to operate a machine, Safety and maintenance. I worked so well with my colleagues, it was as though we were one big family, we helped one another where help was needed, I enjoyed our team days where we got to really build our team, and learn more about each other. The most challenging part about my job was having to work nightshift.

Pros: A lot of growth
