Compliance culture at RAF

RAF used to be an employer of choice until recently when it's insolvency status became a serious job security risk. Relationship with co-workers is cordial with many but the environment can be corrosive at times. I have learnt and achieved a lot since I joined RAF in that I started a Compliance Function from ground zero and it is at a matured stage. What I enjoy the most is that there is no dull moment in the compliance space, especially at RAF given the latest legislative developments. Nothing is challenging save to say that there are several areas of developments for the compliance function too be optimised and for the culture of compliance to be truly ingrained in the culture of RAF.

Pros: learning and development opportunites
Cons: Deficient prospects of growth

Excellent learning opportunity

My day starts with opening the emails to check if there are any requests or queries and attend to them. Often colleagues ask for help, either with their workload or just an information about the system that we use to carry out our daily duties. I have learnt to be self reliant, proactive and live up to the values of the company as much as I can I enjoy inter acting with other colleagues from the core business who are my customers. And it gives me joy to assist or resolve their queries every time. I am working with a lot of files and sometimes they disappear between my section and the core business and that is a huge challenge to trace them.

Pros: Lots of overtime
Cons: Standing for long hours

Effective and Efficient

To be OD Specialist, I m a team player n individual decision maker, I take criticism positively, I have learned to consider co-workers ideas, I enjoy interaction with different divisions within the co, the most challenging about the job is having to get buy in from any change management initiated but with strong character I m it always comes easy at the end, but also considering employees concerns and suggestions but also considering rules and procedures of the ACT and internal processes. Being an OD and HR person I must also consider human resources and human aspects as a whole how all aligns to company strategic objective.my daily work should mean I achieve all TO DO list accordingly, my relationship with co workers must be determined by good work relationships and working towards achieving one common goal. OD is one of unique and special aspects of the business.

Pros: Hard working and dedication
Cons: Violetting processes n procedures

A job of a stakeholder relations specialist

I have been with the RAF for more than 3 years now, and have learnt more about the stakeholder relations of all levels with both the public and private sector. I therefore plan and execute engagements according to their needs and advise them accordingly in terms of stakeholder relations. I have learnt that we cannot work in silos but we need each other, every unit and every individual is unique and important to the success of the organization. the most challenging aspect of my job is seeing those vulnerable claimants in hospital or on a wheelchair and not able too help them due to the processes and regulations of the RAF act. I have a great working relations with all employees as I have grown to understand my role. It is to build solid relations with both internal and external stakeholders irrespective of the attitude I experience at times. mine is to humble myself and make them understand my role and be able to get what the desired outcomes of the job from them.

Pros: being able to service the communities to the best of my ability, lending a caring hand to the vulnerable and distitude.
Cons: seeing quadrapledgic individual and not being able to help them because they are cause of an accident, that breaks my heart. hearing stories of how thr scrupulous lawyers have robbed families of their entire loss of support.
