Department of Rural Development And Land Reform Reviews

Excellent working environment

It is an excellent environment to work at, including the diverse skills that exist within the organisation. The management of the entire organisational records enforces one to be familiar with all the discipline that exist in the organisation. I get along with almost everyone in the organisation as we deal with lot of them on daily basis, nice people to have around and lots of recreational activities I have joined which helped me find it easier to get along with lot of people. I have learnt so much in such a small space, from the management of all the archives, records storage and practices, and the organisational culture itself. I enjoy working with different people everyday across the organisation, it gives one an opportunity to network and enforces good working relationship. Challenges is to work with documents/records across two buildings, challenge comes with moving large volumes from one building to another.

Pros: Large and diverse organisation (knowledge gain)
Cons: Not approving overtime

Great opportunity to establish myself as a new graduate

Because this is such a big establishment, there is a lot of skills to acquire other than just technical skills which are not only used in mu field of expertise. On an average day in the office I examine and approve about 4 diagrams submitted to the Surveyor Generals office by private practicing Land Surveyors. Some days if the project is field based, I interact with land reform stakeholders or site managers as the case may be, set out as required and point out the beacons to the client. My coworkers in general are great, they are always willing to help and teach. They are also always willing to learn, it's a give and take kind of a relationship. The most challenging aspect of the job is having to reject a job that has been done by someone who has more than 20 years of experience when you have less than 4 years of experience. That's usually not received well.

Pros: Great place to learn
Cons: No place for growth

Fast learner

I am a hard worker and I can work under pressure and long hours. I have interpersonal skills and work with all type of people and in a professional way and treat them equally. My relationship with my colleagues was so good because we were respecting each other. What I've learned from my previous employment is to deal with the labour matters including grievances, misconduct cases and the disputes resolution. To promoting labour relation in working place. To represent the department in GPSBC, PSSCBC and CCMA. What are enjoyed the most is when I investigating the case and more especially if it the unions are involve. The challenges was when my case include unions because unions are very stubborn but at the end I managed to handle them.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion
Cons: Long working hours

Excellent learning curve

It is a very good working environment where I have to be very alert as we are dealing with payments to thousands of people and we need to very the accuracy of all the captured details prior to capturing the payment. I have learnt to be faster and more accurate. My attention to details has improved drastically and applying policies and ensuring compliance. The most challenging aspect about my work is having a high number of payment from the provinces to process with a 0% acceptance level for error.

Pros: Good working condition
Cons: Not great opportunity for growth within
