British American Tobacco Reviews

Excellent industry for learning and growth

As laboratory Manager i manage the daily operations of laboratory and support other setilite laboartory within Southern Region (i.e Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe). The most intersting part within the company is that you get exposure to different department because of my role and this makes an person to grow while learning through others. The most challenging part is that you have to be fast learn and be assertive because of nature of the business we are operating on.

Pros: Greater opportunity for promotion
Cons: Flexi hours

Learnings

Moving from a Telecommunications industry to a FMCG Tobacco industry was daunting at first, not knowing what the industry expects, however, it became the most exciting career change I have done. I have hosted and arranged events at clubs and pubs, Struck deals with business owners and did negotiations for event space and time slots. I have learnt marketing strategies within Grocery and Branded Forecourt groups and assessed compliance within these outlets.Currently I am handling both marketing and sales while taking on a big account namely SPAR DC for the Eastern Cape.

Pros: I have adjusted my stratgies within corporate boundaries and within the limits of a tobacco industry which in iteself is the most regulated product in the country.
Cons: It is a declining market

Excellent communication skills

I work at British American Tobacco and I am a leader in my team. Every day I go out to customers to persuade them with orders. I solve their queries at all times and make sure they receive the quality service while I am also making sales. When my manager is on leave I fill the gab as a manager and through that I have gained more experience in how to lead a team of 14 people. I am a fast learner and always willing to accept more challenges.

Pros: I am at the level of getting a promotion
Cons: I go home after finishing all what I am supposed to do.

British American Tobacco SA- A wealth of Experience

A typical day in the life of a Logistics and demand controller at British American Tobacco is a challenging but very growth rewarding day. Our ultimate goal is to ensure customer satisfaction is reached at its best and this entailed working together with different departments to keep the ship sailing. Consistency is key whether from your normal BAU or from an admin point of view. We work together as a team, no one is left behind, if one falls short we land a hand that's how the organisation has helped me grow individually and as a team player. Really enjoyed the will power and emotional strength gained through the years its very encouraging. Most challenging parts were the time frames given to learn new systems implemented but like any other challenge, hard work allows you to experience wisdom after the storm has passed.

Pros: Great place for Growth, personal and professionally
Cons: Long hours =24 hours at work when a system is introduced

Great learning curve

An international company with a lot of diverse cultures, selling a variety of cigarettes, with its own brand. You daily duties, where you reconcile and submit your reports and head an investigation on your debtors. Like any other company, you meet different personalities with great attitudes and warm people and mentees. I have learnt a lot and still are a great company to work for. Challenges come and go and you learn and grow from them, working until late was the most challenging aspects and having to come back early in the morning repeatively the whole week. But all in all I have grown in company as a financial analsyt

Pros: Opportunities for permanent job
Cons: Long working hours

New commercial venture, challenging and exciting. Steap learning curve.

In my current role, I am responsible for the Northern-, Western- and Eastern Cape regions’ Commercial development for a petroleum company. Given my experience, this enables me to flex core capabilities such as Leadership, Skills development of new agents, negotiating, coaching, delegating, customer management, training, commercial acumen and general business development fundamentals in my day-to-day activities. I enjoy being challenged, a steep learning curve and approaching various situations from different angels to obtain success.

Pros: Broad commercial client base. Setting own targets and commision structures. Meeting new people. Negotiating and closing deals. Learning something new every day. Visible results. Recruiting, coaching and guiding new agents.
Cons: Setting up new infrastructure takes time. Incidental waiting periods for HQ approval or resource support
