Seasoned Mining Professional

Work starts at 07:00 and there are meetings scheduled every day from 7:20 till 10:00. This is so wrong. In my opinion that it is the most crucial time of the day to ensure correct line up for Safety and production. The management of the mine are far apart and to become part of the team is a huge challenge specifically when you manage the contractor and are seen as part of that operation. The time spent working with contractors learnt me NEVER to trust them even if they promise that what they are saying are the truth. Go and see for yourself. They will always cover for them self. The most challenging aspect of mining next to a built up area was to control the blasting operation. This is specifically referring to noise, vibration and time of blast. Every blast must be monitored closely and be on time as per the notifications sent out.

Pros: Abillity to work on my own and manage the mine
Cons: Every day on duty even when at home or on holiday

Good learning experience

The good things Good people, good machinery and excellent accommodation for family at mine town.A good focus on safety and a generous bonus scheme. The challenges Good prospering mine but the challenge was to stay on top. Being able to employ the right people as we were competing with all the other mines. As coal prices dropped be able to run with a diminished budget.

Sap experience

I'm working as a mechanical fitter doing the maintanance on running plant and I've learnt much things here since I come from pulp and paper industry to mining and we are the good working together team to achieve full time availability of plant and minumising plant breakdowns and down time

Pros: No promotion promising
Cons: Standby and overtime due to breakdowns

Hardworking and results focused.

I am an innovative, self-motivated & results-oriented professional with 12 years of work experience in the financial sector and mining. My career started through the Bank SETA learnership programme at ABSA where I was employed as an Assistant Private Banker. After completing the programme I secured a permanent position within the bank and later joined the Absa Business Bank MIS and Business Intelligence team. I am currently contracting as a Project Manager in Anglo American Global IM. In this role, I manage the project scope, contract qualified resources to deliver projects’ mandate at different mining operations, manage projects’ CAPEX budget, cash flow forecasting and measurements.

Great experience

Every day at work is new... A new experience everyday.. I love it. I meet n new person everyday.. I've learnt how to solve problems on my own. Every challenge I face is an opportunity to learn. That's what I love most. The best part is that I get to overcome all these challenges everyday..

Pros: Great place to work.. Beautiful set of rules and procedures

Relent planning skills

Worked at New Denmark Colliery for 19 years in the position of engineering foreman electrical. My duties include but not limited to safety and standards in the section. Maintenance planning and overseeing that maintenance are done in a timely and correct manner, booking and issuing of works orders. Ordering spares for routine and non routine tasks. Good housekeeping and tool inspections were held on regular basis. Good timekeeping of artisans and sorting out issues with the time office for artisans. Working on plc's and network cables and programming of network switches. Working in conjunction with H.T. department to send section transformers away for repairs and core maintenance. Moved to Sea park in January 2017 and still seeking work.

Excellent learning curve

Proper inspection with task being being assigned to relevant parties to attend to. Having a good relationship and same mission in a department can assist among co-workers My experience in the SHEQ help me to learn to engage with different employees from different position I enjoy when i work around the team that respect other co-workers opinions and suggestion Being a full time safety is challenging as your scope of work is limited and to get employer and employees to comply to safety standard can torn full time safety rrp apart

I have a very good working relationship with co-workers

Tshabalala is an individual who has pillared himself in the Ventilation & Occupational hygiene of the mining industry in South Africa. I am currently working for Modikwa Platinum mine as Ventilation and occupational hygiene engineering Superintendent since 25 March 2019 to 31 July 2019 I am on a fixed term contract. As a person I have excellent interpersonal skills, always motivated to be at my best performance, reliable and I am very Passionate about what I do as a VOHE professional.
