It is good to be in the company because you get to be exposed to different agricultural fields. The main objective of the company is research. My main job is glasshouse work of which i do the following: Manage and maintain a Glasshouse (Maintenance, soil preparations, Seed processing, planting, treatments, harvesting, and storing), Assist in projects of fellow colleagues,Manage and maintain all equipment’s used in a glasshouse, Emasculation and Pollination, lastly, field work. I enjoy team work and getting the results and always ready to take and work on new projects.

Great experience and valuable learning experience

Work start at 7:30 am and ends at 16:00 Monday to Friday. Every week I get a new task and have to compile a report at the end if every week. I work alone in my tasks and sometimes we. Work in groups. I have learned so much in this period of my internship. I've been exposed and well equipped in plant pathology specifically plant disease inoculation and breeding. I work well with all my colleagues and my supervisors. The post challenging aspect is disease inoculations but I enjoy breeding very well.

Agricultural research council is a very good starting point for graduates to further their studies.

Working at Agricultural research council is a big start to my career. A typical working day includes going to the field to sample now that the planting season is over. After sampling plants are washed to clear the roots off soil and taken to the lab for molecular purposes such as DNA extraction, qPCR analysis and gel electrophoresis. The working environment is refreshing because I have a good relationship with my supervisor whom has made me feel comfortable to talk to her when I have problems especially about my project. I believe I have a good relationship with my other colleagues because when I am not busy with the project I offer assistance to those who need it.

Pros: Overcoming challenges and learning new things at most times
Cons: Long hours
