University of Pretoria Reviews

Excellent working environment

Working for the university is very fulfilling and rewarding. I enjoy being a teaching assistant and working with other academics. I also enjoy teaching and learning. A typical workday would be in a lecture room teaching or supervising a group of about 100 students or working in a laboratory conducting experiments and/ or supervising a group of about 5 students a time.

Pros: Great working environment and many opportunities for learning and improving yourself
Cons: Not a very high salary

Exellent in problem solving

I am an young lady who is currently working at University of pretoria as Assets Administrative Officer in Assets management. My relationship with my co-workers its very good in such way I even forget that their are my co-workers because of the bond and support we give each other ,we are actually one big family. What I have learnt in this department its working together and respecting each other and also helping each other in order to achieve one goal at the end of the day. personally I enjoy being in the tagging team because thats where i go to offices to help custodians with tagging their Assets. In what I do ,I dont find anything being challenging because I enjoy each an everything I do with my job.

Pros: Great opportunity for learning
Cons: fair wirking hours

Working at Mimmos

I worked as a waiter at Mimmos, in Watermeyer. I enjoyed the short time I worked there in 2018 (from the beginning of January, to the end of February), but it was challenging. Around February, the restaurant would get very busy, putting strain on myself and the other waiters. In a short period of time I learned to cope with very stressful situations. I befriended a few colleagues, for which I was greatful, because they allowed for learning opportunities. It's safe to say that I learned most of the skills I needed to be efficient from them. The most challenging part of the job was dealing with mistakes - be it a mishap in the kitchen or my own fault. Professionalism is key during times like these - a skill I learned through personal experience.

Pros: Great for learning how to work under pressure
Cons: Long hours, late nights, difficult situations with some co-workers

Enjoy working with other people

I have a high interest in using engineering software to solve complex engineering problems and bring to visual my thoughts and solutions. Using the pieces and bits of information acquired through my years of studying to solve problems gives meaning to my life. Minerals processing and pyrometallurgy are one of the most important disciplines that I think runs the mining industry. Some of my interests include hydrometallurgy, research on equipment and improvement of their perfomance, aerodynamics, optimization of processes and finding new solutions. I learn and enjoy working with other people both on field (industrial hands on) and off-field (boardroom/ office work), my passion for projects and research always pushed me to work hard and keep track of time to meet deadline

Pros: great learning enviroment
Cons: less work
