University of The Free State Reviews

Marketing Intern

I believe I'm the best candidate for this position because from my last employment I worked as an Marketing intern for 13 months in the Information Centre where I had to know the University of the Free State products (programmes to study as well as their admission requirements). I also enjoy working at the office as I'm exceptionally organised, accurate and deadline driven in my approach to my work. I prefer to work on my own initiative and I'm also good as a team player. Working in the Information Centre I was used to answering calls, emails and work-ins inquiries which required good interpersonal and communication skills. Aside from my honours degree, I have built upon my interest in this field in a number of ways. Recently I have completed my dissertation about "How Customer Perceived Value of Loyalty Programme Influence Continuous Use" which has allowed me to put my theory for the subject into practice.

Pros: Dealing with different students queries regarding their education and being able to help them choosing desirable career routes,
Cons: Discriminatory working environment

Excellent learning opportunity

I enjoy my role as head of the department, Development Learning and Training. I perform a strategic role as I meet with Heads of Departments and Deans to discuss their needs in their department which include Talent Management (Succession Planning), Performance Management, Transformation (Diversity) as well as Training and Development needs. I conduct Climate surveys, OD interventions as well as Strategic Sessions to assist departments/faculties with their strategy to ensure value and how I can drive the future success of the organisation. I have a team of OD specialists that are specialist in the field and we have regular meetings to address the challenges in the organisation and how we can look at contributions to improve them. I enjoy most interacting with the leaders and assisting them with strategy implementation. the most challenging aspect of my job at this stage is ensuring that I can drive the sucessful implementation of Diversity inclusion within the University.

Pros: benefits are great

Agricultural/botany research

We are working on Russian wheat aphids that affect wheat leaves, our research basically looks at the plant’s response mechanism to the aphids. We use various laboratory techniques to measure this, extract proteins and do field work where we plant our wheat varieties on a large scale not in the greenhouse. I work with amazing people that make our day to day duties easy and easier to interact with and resolve any form of disputes. The one challenging part has to to having to remember my basic chemistry skills as we make solutions from scratch. Overall the job has been amazing with lessons daily.

Pros: Advancing skills,great opportunity
Cons: Fixed experiment hours.
