It has been a place for me to encourage others

My daily tasks require me to be an all rounder.I multi-task with activities involving maintenance, logistics, procurement, facilitation of agreements, sit on various committees to facilitate improved quality management. My co-workers enjoy working with me . Our unit encourages various team building activities which help our students and staff work together to meet strict research deadlines. In my current employ, I train various people. This has helped me develop a holistic approach to working with others. It has laid a foundation of patience and perseverance. Our company focuses on research. Research has many changing dynamics. If one works here, one has to be adaptable and facilitate exchanges with people across all religions and cultures.I enjoy seeing students develop from immaturity to responsibility...from being part of an organisation to part of a team who together fight HIV. The job is always challenging because of its various dynamics and deliverable associated with research.

Pros: It has steered me in the direction I wish to develop career wise
Cons: The work is contract, which does not allow for personal develop long term

Working with students

I deal with first entry students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Westville campus. I assist students during practical sessions, mark their scientific reports and capture and record their marks. I am a very professional individual with a very strong work ethic, I work both individually and collectively with my colleagues to assist student with all the laboratory equipments and procedures. I have mastered to work under pressure and how to deal with students accordingly. I have learnt to have a functional working relationship with the lecturers, students and other personnel within our institution. I have mastered the art of working with students a lot as I am also a student myself. The interesting aspects of this work is getting to be engaged in a scientific workplace. I hardly find anything challenging in this department because I usually like to test my limits and facing challenges as a learning curve.

Pros: Exposure to scientific equipment and techniques
Cons: Contract positions
