I have been involved in many projects in the South African Post Office. Primarily, my role is discovering the underlying business need to be addressed and information related to the product and project requirements, often through conversations with stakeholders. And analysing Requirements – Organizing, specifying and modelling the requirements to ensure they are complete. The other part will be specifying Requirements - Documenting the requirements in a format that can be shared with stakeholders. And to also validating and Verifying Requirements through development and testing – Ensuring the requirements map to the real business need, are approved by all relevant stakeholders, and meet essential quality standards.

Pros: Driven to learn new things and participate in ensuring successfull projects
Cons: I do more than what is expected in my area of discipline.

Great company if managed properly nd employees know their role

My normal day is day to day releasing of orders, follow up on cash and stock discrepancies. Enduring all post office branches are operational, dealing with customer complaints and suggestions. Staff absences management and all HR related duties as well as ensuring the profitability of the branches. The relationship with colleagues is great and mostly the area staff who takes the initiative of solving minor problems without escalating to my desk. The worst day is when there is a burglary in the branch when you have to get replacement of equipment.

Cons: Scarcity of positions in Durban

Excellent learning curve

Learned a lot, especially working under pressure and handling difficult situations.

I work closely with the senior manager of Transport and Logistics, and main responsibility is to quantify all the decisions for the business unit. I am also responsible for the continuous improvement within the region, leading a team which is implementing it. This is part of change management initiative. I also facilitate the trains for the tools which we are ought to implement.

Opportunity to learn more and for career growth

My daily responsibilities include attending to clients' queries, whether internal or external, either by email, telephone calls or personal visits and to meet the set target. On a weekly basis I compile reports; weekly planner, weekly report, forecasts, Top 40 report and any other ad hoc report which might be requested of me. I work closely with my colleagues as I need update on their sections so I can be well prepared for my clients, anything in regards to operations. This requires a lot of patience, tolerance, understanding, interpersonal skills as well as good communication skills. I have learnt that an individual has an opportunity to learn everyday, from the unskilled to the executives in order to keep relevant. I enjoy it when I manage to meet the demands but more so when I exceed the expectations. The challenges is when my clients are experiencing challenges and I can not help resolve them on time due to internal challenges which I do not have control over.

Training & Develpment

Start at 07:30, witch on the kettle, then my PC, then radio. First check all my e-mails and in the meantime also answer phone calls. Assist co-workers where necessary. I like giving advise and assist co-workers, whether it is telephonically or in my office.
