Started in September 2013 as aircraft maintenance apprentice and qualified in June 2016.

I work with different systems in SAAT and everyday you learn everything only if you co operate;communicate and work as a team. As an aircraft mechanic you need to be able to work under pressure;manage time and without compromising the safety and airworthiness of the aircraft.Because safety of our passengers is in our hands and judgement.

Pros: only if you put effort and concentration on your job you grow faster in the company.
Cons: Long working hours;shifts and working hard.

It has been learning curve and interesting to be in Aviation

It has been interesting to learn a new trade, especially in Aviation. We are taught to read aircraft manuals as-well-as repair drawing . I have a good working relationship with my co workers. Aviation has taught me humility and being responsible. At the moment i'm in training so i wouldnt say the are challengies in as far as the training is concern. I'm currently doing a module called manufacturing, where we are required to make a tool box. I wish to return to Civil Engineering industry so that i can continue with a career that is relevant to my qualification.

Excellent learning

It helps you to improve your hand skiills and your manufucturing as well while you learn other skills and get used to different hand tools as well as bending machines, rolling, and drilling machinges and welding irons and all different types of welding

i HAD TO WORD WITH MANY KINDS OF CHARACTERS, MEET NEW PEOPLE AND MOST OF ALL WORKING UNDER PRESSURE AND ON TIME LINE.. I HAVE LEARNT THAT, NO MATTER HOW EDUCATED YOU ARE, EVEN THOSE THAT YOU MIGHT THINK ARE LESS THAN YOU, YOU NEED THEM ONE DAY, FOR THE TEAM TO ME COMPLETE EVERYONE IS IMPORTANT

Base maintenance is great place to get exposure to the Aircraft

Working for SAAT has been a great privilege, from morning meetings setting up workloads and targets for the day.Some tasks are done as an individual but mostly as Base maintenance most tasks require team work. I've learnt that good workmanship and taking pride in my work gets the job done and gives good outcomes. I enjoy mostly to get the job done right the first time and getting it done before time. Swinging spanners during winter was always a challenge cause even the hangars we worked at are cold.
