Smollan Group Reviews

Growth opportunity

I am an individual who is always intrigued by opportunities that will instill growth in both my work and personal life. Such opportunities gives one a chance to explore their knowledge, experience and skills; share space and ideas with others, to achieve success in whatever task at hand. Being part of that is what I am eager to be part of at this point in my career.

Pros: Interactive, challenging
Cons: Short staffed

Learning curve

Smollan is fan to work at, work gets stresfull at times but we always try to make in fan, the only challenging part is when I have to complete my invoicing which takes most of my time becouse mine include Heineken Kitting & Gifting department and they send out staff everyday to all our 23 warehouses. I have leand how to keep calm in a bad situation and by all means turn it into a good situation. We have a good team working experience in our team, we ague, we get angry at each other but most impotently we always help each other in difficult situation.

Pros: Yes there is
Cons: I work at home after hour and sometime over the weekend

Project delivered on time and in budget.

A typical day at work would include meetings, Workshops, Updates, Stakeholder management, planning and Risk management. The project was planned for a 6 month deployment without any customization, Including Sage X3 BMS and Sage X3 People.

Pros: Challenging Stakeholders - Makes you grow
Cons: Distance

Excellent learning curve, Learned alot of 3rd party payments and full payroll function

The payroll department at Smollan Group is extremely busy. We have 24 000 employees that needs to be paid on a monthly basis. We are responsible for loading all payroll input (new engagements, terminations, death claims, salary advances, medical aid, pension fund, garnishees, update personal details, completing UI 19 for terminations and maternity leave, capture leave, assist with salary queries. There after it is time to print payslips and to start with month end payments (3rd party payments). My relationship with my co-workers is excellent. We all get along with each other and work together as one big team. I have learned a lot at Smollan Group - doing 3rd party payments, uploading bank files, do full function payrolls (Foreign and SA). What I enjoyed most was when I was acting supervisor - checking all banking details, uploading bank files, etc.

Pros: Great oppurtunity to learn alot about payroll. The payroll manager look well after all hardworking staff . You get alot of support from management.
Cons: Long working hours when new procedures come into place

I think the company has not come to Excellency

Working in this company is challenging but good at the same time. Dealing with customers everyday learning new dimensions in sales and marketing industry Having a good relationship with co-workers The power of communication between call centers, deliveries and managers. The most challenging part is to estimate on orders and how much customers are to buy your stock you work with that powerful sober mind.

Pros: Just by that time promotions do come but not like almost every year
Cons: Sometimes we do work long hours though that does not pay for us

Good company

Its well structured company, it cares for it employees as they provide lunch and eats. The company benefits are good. It's the kind of company that takes employees as family, I have learned a lot of skills as I moved from post to post with new duties and resposibilities, our team was chain team and we were encouraged to swap job descriptions to be able to function as a team and not fall behind if one co-worker is upsent. The culture of the company is family oriented. I enjoyed the team activities we had as especially when we have meetings everyone gets a chance to chair meetings or write minutes so it exposed us to be proactive.

Pros: Exposure to gain experiance
Cons: Long hours due to lunch duties

Work independently, great learning curve, working as group, learned how to supervise group

It all depends on the days, some are busy some are quite, But u learn to come up with ways of making sales, and giving the best customers service. You learn to build a good relationship with co workers and seniors but being reliable and respectful. Learn to always look presentable, communication is vital and honesty, Loving what you do, you will love your job, and meeting new different people everyday. Most challenging part is when you cant reach your targets, it put pressure.

Pros: You learn how to handle with different people,.
Cons: No room for growth

Long life learner

I am respectful and honest individual of high integrity who is able to work in a team and make a meaningful contribution to any fleet management operation and as equally good at working alone. I can minimize costs in terms of redundant vehicles on hire, excessive fuel usage and damage charges. People can rely on me to make sure that the Transport office is running smooth, and make sure that all its vehicles are kept in a clean, safe and roadworthy condition. As a true professional I always try to find ways to improve existing ways of working and come to management with a track record of cutting unnecessary costs and reducing overheads. Furthermore, as a true team player I have no problem sharing my knowledge and ideas with others. I have developed analytical thinking, creative, problem solving skills which mostly helps in cost saving and process improvement.

Pros: Gain experience in a variety of areas, give multiple skills
Cons: Fewer formal training programs, encounter less opportunity for growth and promotion
