Dynamic changing environment
A typical day was usually from 8 to 16.30, or 9 to 6pm,where i would be dealing with staff and escalted queries as a supervisor, or taking calls from customers with regards to queries related to our products, also processing and recieve orders daily Relationship with co workers was excellent as we had to work as a team to be able to service our customers, where teamwork is essential I have learnt first how to deal with diverse groups of people ie management of agents, and also having to deal with internal and external customers, as i had to deal with logistics and warehouse I enjoy achievingvtargets and servicing our clients to the best of our ability Challenging aspects of the job was dealing with impossible timelines
Pros: Opportunity to learn
Cons: Hierachical structure

Fantastic experience to work for nearly 25 years at CSIR
I normally started my day with a meeting with my manager to plan the day and week ahead, I had a fantastic relationship with my co-workers and especially my direct manager. During all the years at the CSIR, I learnt to be compassionate in whatever I need to do. Nothing is to big or to small. I enjoyed working with our various stakeholders, international and national. My favourite duties was to arrange various overseas trips, arranging conferences, being the backbone of my managers office. I love working with people and love to interact on all levels
Pros: It is a fantastic company where I was able to excell myself. All the experience and interactions learnt me to be strong and dedicated. Also all the advantages of pension fund etc
Cons: I think the only bad thing is that the company changed and thereby we don't have more room to develop when you at a older stage.

Good learning environment but challenging growth opportunities
As a Senior Researcher/ Technologist at level D1, my KRA puts more requirements (i.e. 40%) on financial performance. This measure alone means that one is required to source contract R&D funding in order to sustain oneself's salary and a number of junior researchers. However, the experience gained at the CSIR is insurmountable.
Pros: The CSIR's Career Ladder system is a fair system that encourages young people who are still at the beginning of their careers to grow
Cons: The career ladder system slows down from levels D1 and above as the requirements become tough. At these levels, more emphasis is placed on sourcing contract R&D projects and managing projects, which makes the levels more admin intensive

Cover letter
Dear recruiter I am dynamic communicator with almost 19 years of experience in the profession. Having worked as a senior editor, media analyst, science writer and corporate communications manager (currently internally focused as part of the full marketing and communications team) at a leading scientific R&D organisation in Africa, I can confidently say that I am a highly skilled, multi-faceted communications professional. I plan to relocate to Cape Town very soon as I have family there. I believe that what sets me apart from others is the combination of my high work ethic and personal attributes. I believe that although my CV reflects my appropriate experience and relevant skills, an interview will offer the opportunity to gain a more accurate indication of my suitability for the position. Thank you for the opportunity to apply for this position. Regards, Chiara Lincoln
Pros: Leader in research, development and Innovation in Africa
Cons: Position stagnant, relocating to Cape Town
