Good Learning curve for me in the contactual aspect.

I have been in the industry for the past 35 years. From planning and construction, tower builds and swap outs. worked at Telkom, Nokia Siemens, Hauwei, Zte, doing various projects from planning manager through to national design manager and the regional project manager for implementation. Busy doing contract and sit in front of the PC writing reports and gathering information from contractors and vendors, and ensuring that their documentation is up to date prior to submitting to the Contract Management department at the City of Cape Town. Attend numerous meetings relating to tenders and contracts to provide advice on legal matters and supply chain managements processes.

Pros: Salary
Cons: No leadership qualities

Training is given to those who interested but must be done on off days

I work at Park Inn Hotel now as I am struggling to find work as a admin clerk so I am a security . The people are great to work with people friendly but just not happy with the hours. I work a 12 hours shift from 6am to 6pm or from 6pm to 6am . The most challenging aspect of this job is to be alert and on your feet the whole time . What I like most is greeting the guest helping them when help is needed. Doing my rotation to check if the rooms are clean. Typical working day is when I had to work a double shift as one of my worker that relieve me was sick.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion
Cons: Long working hours

Excellent working environment

My day-to-day tasks would be payments of invoices, attending meetings, scheduling staff to go on training interventions, ordering supplies, office and I.T. equipment. The staff as a collective got on well together (in fact we consider each other as family). I have learnt how to negotiate how to bring my message across without stepping on anyone's toes. I enjoyed what the branch stood for and how everyone believed in the programme. Challenges was when the Project Manager required support from a department within the City within 24 hours and the protocol was that we needed to tap into their service 7 days prior and I ensured that I always got it done for my Manager.

Pros: Diverse scope to grow and learn and hone your skill.
Cons: It's not easy to get promoted within the branch as there is quite a bit of bureaucratic loops that one has to go through.

Graduate at the City of Cape Town

The days vary from busy to quiet, its how you deal with your workload and pressure. The co-workers are amazing! we all respect one another's cultures and differences, you do however get a few rotten apples out of the bunch, again, it is how you deal with the situation. I have learnt to become more open minded and driven. I enjoy working with a diverse group of people, always open to learning! Some challenges are the people, not everyone does that they are expected to do, so it kind of makes your job difficult.

Pros: Great experience
Cons: limited exposure
