Excellent place to work at, as there are always growth and changes taking place.

I work in a multi-cultural organisation that employ's over 20 000 people, thus I come in to contact not with a lot of cultures on a daily basis. It's is therefore imperative that are open minded as I not only deal with my colleagues but external stakeholders and contract workers. On a normal day things can get very busy as there a constant meetings taking place between departments and external stakeholders. Therefore I have to be one step ahead all the time to ensure my Director (New Market Development department) is always prepared and I have to stay in contact with him all the time. Technology also plays a big role in my work, as this allows me to do things faster. It can get changeling when do not communicate well in advanced on things, thus I constantly need to do follow-ups. Another thing I learnt working for the City of Cape Town is the service delivery is of the utmost important thing.

Pros: However I enjoy working with people of all kinds and from all over the world, it opens your mind and you learn new things.
Cons: Service Delivery always comes first thus you need to put things (measures) in place, whenever you go on-leave and are off sick.

Excellent

It was a great pleasure to work at City of cape town as I have working there I have chance to enter parliament when we having office meeting as a whole which was Good experience. Meeting with Directors and seeing them everyday and see those people are always smiling doing their job aswell. Working in a valuation is like nice it gives me a clear clue which I didn't know before because I was drawing properties so that the valuers be able to come up with the property value. Working with different people I learn how to work in a team as we do drawings some building were old you can't recognize if it's a house or shark but we did help each other when someone struggle to see. My relationship with my co workers was gud even now we still communicate although we were working in contract. The most challenging of the job was we given a certain number of houses you need to be finished at a specific time even on that I did manage to do my work on time.

Pros: Great opportunity
Cons: Office hours

Great learning opportunity

I was a student working for City of Cape Town. My contract Ended July 2016. I managed a satellite office in Athlone under subcouncil 11. Where I gained first hand experience of how government policies and procedures work and should be followed. I maintained a good work ethic and I reported to the subcouncil secretary and manager directly. Key components that I did at work was making sure that I was first to start and last to leave. Other daily task to start my day was checking the health and safety of the office and making sure the office was clean at all times. Main tasks was all general administration and managing the job seekers database for the subcouncil, I was also the link to all subcouncil matters for the community and queries came to me then I would contact the relevant department or answer accordingly.

Pros: great opportunity for promotions
Cons: traveling and the work was contract basis

Great learning opportunity

At city of cape town I managed a satellite office whereby planning my daily activities was crucial. I started the day out by doing heath and safety checkups and followed with setting out my todo list and tasks for each day according to priority. I priorities according to hours of the day which include lunch breaks. I take pride in not staying absent and being punctual as a standard and part of my work ethic general task include doing inventory, microsoft, pastel, job seekers database, internet, telephones operations, intranet and all general administration. Interaction with co work was all done via email and telephone I worked directly with community members, contractors, and department managers (which sometime wasn't easy). Knowing rules and regulations always assisted me in that regards

Pros: opportunity for application for higher positions
Cons: traveling and drivers license

Great learning curve

I worked as a Student for City of Cape Town managing a Satellite office in Athlone where I was responsible for all administrative duties including, health and safety aspects for the office. I was also tasked to give instruction to the cleaners of the office and guide the community to follow proper rules and regulation that was set in place. My main function was to manage a job seekers database where my highlight of the job was seeing a person that really needed to work received a telephone call from me to start working. Touch parts of my work was knowing I won't be able to please everyone coming into the office then a simple textbook quote would assist me to bypass that feeling. My communication with colleagues and departmental managers was all via email or telephone correspondent. Over all I had a great experience working for the City of Cape Town

Pros: great application for promotion opportunities
Cons: traveling to work
