Perfect learning curve

It’s a great environment to take off your career as chemistry graduate with great exposure to the lab surrounding and basic lab responsibilities. Preparing of solutions for students and demonstrating experiments were key responsibilities which also included operating instruments like AA, UV, GC & IR spectroscopy. I haven’t to say it’s angrea learning curve and it grew me so much that I’m seeing the lab environment differently and confidently and I’m definitely ready to tackle bigger responsibilities at a different industry.

Pros: Great opportunity for learning the lab environment
Cons: Nothing at all

Well organized department

I am responsible for supervising students as they perform their experiments in the laboratory. I also mark practical reports and tutorials. I have good working relationship with my colleagues as we easily swap shifts to accommodate academic assessments. A practical is 3 hours, I supervise one practical a week, A tutorial has similar hours. I have learnt the importance of being prepared for my students. I enjoy being able to help students understand what they have already learnt in class and putting it into application. I also enjoy teaching good laboratory skills and practices to help them get good results. The most challenging aspect is not always knowing the cause of a bad result, thus being unable to assist the student in rectifying it.

Pros: Keeps you in touch with your fundamental chemistry
Cons: Marking

Creativity and problem solving are also on the menu and being able to mentor and guide is an absolute benefit.
