University of Johannesburg Reviews

Excellent career prospects and professional growth.

I truly have no complaints. I'm happy with the way the psychology department operates, the way I'm treated, and the way they treat their staff in general. I work under good superiors and supervisors. I have acquired extensive knowledge and/or experience in counseling skills, attention to detail, listening skills as well as report writing skills. I feel appreciated by all my colleagues and superiors for the results I achieve and, generally, as a member of the psychology department. I enjoy working with diverse people, though I sometimes find it overwhelming when I get to work with mentally challenged patients or conduct assessments on individuals who are impatient or aggressive.

Pros: Great opportunity for growth
Cons: You rarely find assistance when dealing with aggressive patients and most of the supervisors are always out of their offices or chatting in each others offices.

Good at what im doing

I have excellent decision-making skills and the ability to work with a team to meet tight deadlines. I also have the ability to work well under pressure and maintain a positive and friendly attitude even when things get hectic. I am able to plan, lead and analyze situations in a critical and creative ways. I can also evaluate problems as they occur and provide the maintenance needed to get things up and running again. I am confident, with the ability to give every effort to any given task.

University of Johannesburg- There is a common culture which enables teaching and learning but room to explore other opportunities is limited especially for young graduates who have high expectations in future

Pros: great opportunity for teaching and learning
Cons: lack of growth

Good skills development

It was a good experience as I had left the company now. I learnt how to work with people and the skills I got personally and professionally. I learned how to handle angry clients and working under pressure showed me that I can be productive more. Research skills gained as I was working on the field in people's houses. You get to know how the life of people in South Africa is. As colleagues we always helped each other when we encountered problems or restrictions. The most challenging thing about it was not getting a way to convince a client to give you the time but it was very interesting and always encouraging to get up in the morning and go to work

Pros: Good research skills
Cons: Arrogant and rude clients

Excellent

My typical work day depends on the load of work but as a lecture i Mostly get busy when i have lectures. I have a great relationship with my co-workers, we work in a team, help each other where we can. Working with different student on a daily basis has taught me to actually differentiate individuals, I am able to adapt easily in any given environment. Also working with has opened my eyes that you learn as you go and that you not always correct and that i should always be open to knew ideas. What i enjoy most is that i always deliver in time and that my student are doing great and this makes me look forward to my day. The most challenging aspect in my area at the moment is that you need to identify each student struggle and try to help where you can.

Pros: Great working environment for exposure
Cons: Flexible workers

Great experience

I have had limited work experience in service industries, which has indeed given me a variety of skills and the ability to work well with people of different cultures, beliefs and personalities. I am indeed a good listener and I work well under pressure. Pros: great way to gain experience
Cons: long working hours
