Excellent learning curve

A typical day at work will start with going through my e-mails and responding to queries that I can deal with quickly. Then I will look at my daily stats and start processing bills and revisions. In-between I will also be answering telephone queries from brokers and members. I will later go back to my e-mails and handle the rest of the queries. What I learned is being disciplined and work according to a daily plan. Management was always there to give support, however there was just too much work as the Executives had decided not to replace staff that were leaving. The hardest part of the job was high volumes of work as we kept on taking over funds from the staff members that were leaving. The most enjoyable part of the job would be seeing a satisfied and happy client after being assisted or after a complex query is resolved.

Pros: Seeing clients satisfied and happy after being assisted
Cons: High volumes of work as well as long hours

My role

Being responsible for an excellent customer experience is what drives me. This ethos is filtered down to the teams that report to me. I have built excellent rapport with my teams, peers and colleagues as well as external stakeholders. I was tasked with setting up our business unit's Complaints Management Team in 2012. This was one of the most exciting and challenging highlights of my career. The work, effort and foresight employed at the time has resulted in this being an excellent success story for me and my employer. Everyday has something new to teach one in this role and allows one to grow personally as well as in the role of a customer champion. What is a good challenge is being able to find the right balance between commerciality and treating customers equitably.

Pros: Opportunities to learn and grow
Cons: While I had the freedom to create a best practice department, one can achieve more through greater empowerment.

N/a

I've been in Financial services since 2010, initially within face to face advisory position canvassing for business, then within a callcentre environment handling incoming leads. In this business I qualified with NQF5 Financial Planning and Financial Services Board Exam RE5. Then I moved into a Senior Management role as Head of Sales and Marketing of a health insurance calllcentre until the end of 2016. I'm currently with Liberty as an advisor and would like to move into a management position such as this where I could fully utilise my skills and experience. Thank you.

Pros: N/a
Cons: N/a

Work ethics

I work in a safe , relaxed and inspiring culture type of of environment. We always thrive to achieve the same goal which is making our company and our region the best . While adhering to procedures and processesses set by company standard . We believe in teamwork therefore supporting one another throughout and to also withstand Challenges when they arise . Some days are very busy and there's a lot of pressure and by keeping calm and prioritising is what keeps us on the go . I enjoy liasing with clients and building new bussiness relationships to broaden our markets and to learn from other cultures I have learnt that without hard work , persistency , consistency and determination you can never achieve your goals in life and in a working environment .

Pros: Great opportunity for growth
Cons: Too much travelling

Great growth

Not a bad company to work for. It has great potential for growth. Also believe that since this will be a new industry for me, there'll be a huge scope to learn.

Pros: The growth opportunity is huge and because the company is big it is easy to move within departments and the career prospects are huge
Cons: The people who are placed in positions to make decisions, are not making those decisions

Excellent way to start off my career

I would spent the first 2 hours of dat sorting out clients financial portfolios, calculating qoutes and prepare any important documentation. The next 2 hours I will call people, referrals or cold calling. Lunch After lunch I start to see people for the day, sometime I saw people until 10 o clock the afternoon. My co werkers helped me a lot to start off and I will still asked them what their opinion will be on certain clients. The most important thing that I’ve learned as a financial advisor is what ever you put in you will get out. The new people I met is what I enjoyed the most, to make new friends. Most challenging aspect is the lapses that come through, you have to work on customer availability and time. Their was at least 2 lapses coming through per month.

Pros: Great opportunity to create multiple customer networks
Cons: Lapses and clawbacks
