I have an extensive experience in installation, commissioning and maintenance of heavy industrial machines I have worked for Alstom at Komati as specialist turbine fitter: for Eskom at Kendal as Senior Technician and GE Alstom as a Technical Field Advisor / Site Turbine Supervisor at both Kusile and Medupi. I am now working for Eskom as a Senior Construction Supervisor at turbines. I hold a certificate in Mechanical Engineering T5: a diploma in Project Management; Professional with ECSA. I trained as a fitter and turner hands on apprenticeship.

My time working at Eskom was a learning curve for me.
A typical work day was goingto the office every morning to get job orders from the dispatch then go to site. Eskom encourages team work because almost everything is done with a work partner or in a group - I have learnt that safety is important as you work with live electricity. - I enjoyed everything about working at eskom and the most department I enjoyed working were metering and telecontrol. - Testing an equipment was a challenge because you cannot just assume that a certain part is faulty.
Pros: Great opportunity for growth
Cons: Taking too many learners and not be able to appoint them permanently.

Team player, results driven, highly motivated
I am currently a research manager at Eskom heading up a team of 350 people. I am overseeing the Future Customer portfolio which looks at new services and products for Eskom. There are new cheaper alternatives to grid electricity in the market and I head up the R&D into new businesses, services and products.

Being an Engineer In Training (EIT) has allowed me to: - Rotate through different departments. - Learn various types of softwares. - Do plant investigations. - Work with various disciplines. - Starting own design project. - Site visits and engaging with local communities.

I have a strong interest in the field of maintenance, asset management and product life cycle management. I am currently pursuing this interest through my master’s research: Improving the Reliability of Ageing HV Breakers through the Application of Maintenance Benchmarking Process.  During my time as a leader, I was able to distinguish myself as a proficient and motivated employee. I engaged in projects that extended the life of a plant and equipment while minimising overall life cycle costs, improved network reliability and performance and ensuring safety of the plant and operators.
