Department of Social Development Reviews

Excellent working experiance

Its a very good company that render services to our communities.it gave me the opportunity to explore how is it to work with different clients with different situations.they offered us an opportunity to work with NGOs,we did profiling, mobilization and i volunteered in HR Office and switchboard. its an 8 hour working day, that is how it operates.the co-workers were good even though you dont meet the same people but you learn to accept the way people do things and the way they approach things.they thought us so much in social development. that is where i discovered what i love doing. What i really enjoyed doing was doing filing, submitting leaves and copies an also leaves how to capture information in the computer. most challenging was when you get the complaint from the client and its not attended by the specific social worker, which takes you a bit down but you end up following the case until its attended.

Pros: great job opportunity
Cons: short working hours, lot of work.

In addition, I have enough experience in Supply Chain Management; it have help me to enhance my communication and writing skills. I have many skills which I am able to contribute to the job role. Currently on a business administration learnership at The Department of Social Development.

Besides the mode of transport i use on a daily basis which is unreliable sometimes, being at work gives me a purpose to study further and help out more to gain more experience. My co-workers are people who are very diversed,i learn alot from them on how to deal with various situations professionally. Being around different cultural and religious backgrounds gives me different views on different situations. Requesting something but not receiving any it at the time its needed.

Data base management

Currently I’m an Assistant Manager (Asset letting and Disposal management)at the Department of Social Development under Supply Chain Management Unit (Asset Management), I believe in public service delivery in such a way that I feel I’m not being exposed enough. Im an assertive individual with an open creative mind yet interact very well in a diverse team of individuals. During my period at the department I’m working on I have managed to maintain a clean audit since my appointment. I’m an artist by birth, during after hours and on weekends I help struggling artists and local groups to implement community growth by hosting awareness campaigns through music workshops because some of them feel neglected whereas they have the ability to change the world by using their artistic skills on a daily basis, I feel that not much is being done to educate the youth. If only I could be granted an opportunity.

Pros: MAintained a clean audit report
Cons: able to work without supervision

Maintained confidentiality

Department of social development is a typical government department with the normal working known working hours, 07H30 - 16H00, it offers great salary packages but limited career opportunities. I have a very friendly working relationship with my co-workers, socially. I have learnt to be more dependent, excel in maintaining confidentiality. I have the most amazing supervisor/manager who have taught me a lot in the government sector including respecting each other, problem solving etc. The most challenging aspects of my job is that one tends to work under pressure in most cases. Need to be very vigilant, pay attention to detail which assisted me in being accurate.

Pros: Great benefits
Cons: Long working hours without compensation
