University of Zululand Reviews

Diligent kind of employee

I am punctuate working normal hours a day, very quiet individual doing excess working load. Willing to experience new learning areas in the working field and collaborate with other workers. It enables as a worker to learn new skills such as producing good quality work as they as individuals have different expertise. I enjoy working as a team. The difficult part in the working field is where in ones team they are dependable on your quantitative analysis, which requires you to produce business solutions. It leaves you as a worker to attract expert financial consultants to get usable financial products including recommended software to come with quality financial solutions to financial problems, which will give your team brief details how to tackle.

Pros: Great at learning new experiences
Cons: Doing extra activities in the working field

Academic tutor

I started tutoring as a volunteer during my final year (2017), which showed me that I can transfer economics knowledge more than lecturers. I then Applied for being an actual academic tutor, which gave me good communication skills and being able to work with different people. While working as a tutor, I also had to perform good in my studies, which subsequently happened because I managed to get an average of 74% with 86% in my mini-thesis. This shows that I work well under pressure and I am able to multitask. I revealing the way I manage, I usually sleep three hours every year and allocate the rest hours on my work. I can assure you, I am a good asset to have among your employees and you'll never regret hiring me. S Majola

Pros: Developed love for Economics and data analysis
Cons: becoming a workaholic

Excellent working condition

I work on Wednesday and Thursday. And I have good relationship with my coordinator as well as the senior lecturers. I have learnt how to be able to read information on a textbook and being able to align it with a real life situation. I enjoy the fact that the organisation do recognize our capability in our field of study by giving us an opportunity to be able to share information to students who are first years as well as second years. Is when you work hard and students do not come to class and when you have to claim your salary and in some cases you don't get paid. It really discourage us from doing our job the way we want.

Pros: It's gives a platform to be able to get new information while tutoring the class and as well skills of working with people. Not to forget mentioning the fact that it also improve my vocabulary and instill confidence in me
Cons: Salary is not that much compared to the work done

Team work

Working as a lab assistant help me a lot because i'm able to work with different people. Sharing ideas with others and working under pressure while am still a student. I can say this are things which drive me to always stay focus on my work and also respect each other. The challenges that I experienced is that some times you found out that our youth are scared of doing science and most of them they claim that science is hard/ tough so that result me to go further with my studies in oder to have more knowledge so that I can share with them n change their mentality about science because, for me science is a powerful weapon we can use to design/ synthesize new products which can increase our economy. Not only that also by making new products from raw materials we can create job opportunities.

Pros:
Cons: 6

Gaining a working experience

Actually I am a postgraduate student, thus I got a part time job to be a tutor during my free hours. I usually used to assist.at the laboratory during practical sessions. I have learnt to work in a team and that mostly help me is thay if you know something it is not advisable to hold it on your own you have to share with others so that if sometimes on your information there arr some errors your collegues might correct you. The most challenging thing is that, this job evwn needs extra hours because these student I am tutoring they even come to my resident for consultations only to find that that time I am doing my own stuffs and surely I dont have to chase them away I have to leave what I am doing and help them.

Pros: Learning while working
Cons: Doing the job even out of working hours

Excellent learning curve

Working for the university has given a wide range of experience and exposure. I have gained more experience in working with general workers to senior professionals. This has uplifted my confidence and my ability to communicate at all levels. I enjoy working in teams as you get to be critisized (in a constructive manner) and redirected to do what will benefit both the team and the company at large.

Pros: There is great room for promotion within the University which follows promotion criteria to be met
Cons: For now I would say the strick, which is delaying our processes and the learning delays
