UKZN Reviews

Excellent place for growth

Work tends to be much in the mornings, but it gets lesser as the day goes by, and it becomes even easier when you plan properly what to do before hand. I have worked with people who are friendly and who do their jobs which makes it easier to do mine. I have learned to work with both independent ( people who know what to do)and dependent (Those that you have to plan for them and tell them all the time what to do next) coworkers. There is freedom for career development and growth, the organization cares and assist with talent management and self development. Staff members are also funded their studies. What is most challenging is the lack of funding thus we have to use sometimes old equipment.

Pros: great opportunity for growth, sponsor further studies
Cons: No clear performance measurement for support staff

Excellent learning

Working as a tutor at Ukzn helped me to develop passion for teaching which lead me in getting my PGCE. I enjoyed mostly working with students who were Non- Mother tongue speakers of IsiZulu language. This was because this is where I saw my self as someone working with children who were just learning how to speak which requires patience, love and dedication in teaching the learner how to properly read write and speak the foreign language.

Pros: Great opportunity to develop teaching skills and abilities
Cons: Salary was not satisfying

MY MEASURES.

Working at an institution is great at all measure because you get a chance to learn about different departments and at the same time you learn how to operate and coordinate your work at a environment where there is students. working under the Finance team has gave me an experience about the financial controls and to manage my finance skills. I enjoy working overtime and staying at work till late. The challenging moments is have to reach a deadline and having to resolve work conflicts.

Pros: vacation days
