Personal development a necessity

It is a formal environment with direct engagement with management but long organograms interfere with immediate and urgent decision making. Opportunity to grow on own pace is guaranteed and availability of training is a bonus.

Pros: enough training
Cons: Long reporting structure

This has been a great learning and working experience as it was a graduate programme

- most of the day we would deal with customer queries an try to handle customer complaints - my relationship with my co-workers was really good as we supported each other and all worked well to ensure that we deliver the best service to our customers. - i have learnt that with a big company you have to work hard always be on time - i enjoyed when customers would compliment us on the work or service provided to them. - the most challenging was to handle difficult customers

Pros: great salary increases
Cons: sometimes working shifts

When you work, work all the time you work.

I enjoyed the people I worked with. It was a friendly and fun atmosphere and I actually enjoyed going into work each morning. I felt the leadership team was great as well. They knew all of their employees on a first name basis and tried to make those personal connections. I also enjoyed that fact that the office tried to do community outreach with local organizations. As a new employee in the Engineering world, the company offered me a great opportunity for a good entry level position – one that I’ll always be grateful for. However, after being there for so many years, I felt I was not able to reach my full potential because of a real lack of challenge. There really was no room for advancement in the company. While I did enjoy working there and appreciate the skills I developed while with the company, I feel my skill set can be better utilized elsewhere, where my capabilities are more recognized and there is the opportunity for growth.

Pros: -Flexible Hours -Extensive training that prepares you for providing exceptional service -great community of co-workers and advisors -full-time corporate benefits
Cons: -limited to part-time work -required to work weekends (although this was not an issue)

Tracking of fleet

It is advisable for a company to get the latest tracking device that will be able to provide driver and vehicle performance It is difficult to have outdated tracking device as this will not provide you with the required intelligence to plan better. Having one tracking device in a company is also good and centralises the report. Company also need to invest or employ dedicated tracking team that will analysis and provide accurate reports. Line management need to always brief and debrief their drivers .

Pros: working nationally with internal and external customers
Cons: Long hours

I learned how to apply Metallurgy concepts

I was working as a student. My key responsibilities were quality control of rolling stock components. I was also conducting failure analysis. Every batch of components relieved for quality control tests would be brought to me by my supervisor. I had to register the batches in the company database for future reference. With the help of my coleagues, I would have to conduct the following tests, guided by company specifications: Microscopic examination, macroscopic examination, tensile test, impact test and hardness test. Once the tests are all done, it was my responsibility to generate a conformation report which would be signed by me, my supervisor and the company manager. The report normally stipulates whether the component is acceptable or has to be rejected depending on the results conformance to specifications.

Pros: Exposure to numerous applications of Metallurgy
Cons: N/A
