Statistics South Africa is an organisation is a suitable place to kick start one's career in the field of statistics. new employees get an opportunity to learn about data collection techniques, data analysis and data dissemination. The management is supportive towards the development of new employees, indeed this was the best place to start my career. The work flows and the team work was amazing. Management was good. Co-workers were amazing there was a lot of team work. As part of my internship with Statistics South Africa is an excellent learning opportunity and I developed my skills and experience in numerous different ways. I have learned that the real world is much different from what you learn in the classroom, that some things you learn are similar to what you were taught, but that for the most part learning is achieved through the process of doing. In the world of Statistics things happen at a fast pace, and you must take everything one day at a time while still keeping an eye on the future.

More Professional field that requires good communication skills and understanding of diversity.
Motivation of staff members so that they can perform to the best of their ability even in trying circumstances. Being able to be a middleman between the staff and management. Be a team member and be able to manage a balance between what needs to be done no matter what and represent the aspirations of individuals. I enjoy most persuading stakeholders to buy in and make the operations possible for the field staff to obtain Data in areas that are difficult to operate for different reason excluding volatile circumstances. I also enjoy engaging stakeholders and explaining to them the unknown phenomenon. Alleviating their fears in order for them to change their perception about what we do and accept us.
Pros: Minimum chance of progressing to a higher level but great experience
Cons: Normal working time though at times one can be expected to go an extra mile especially in meeting time lines.

A good trying learner
I normally like to work with people, solve personal problems that might affect work, provide advises when necessary. Can work under pressure to meet dead lines per day, ensuring that no work can pile for another day. I have learnt that having clean where you stay, it gives me an opportunity to like a clean office. I enjoy working with people, at the same time I can work alone when necessary and I do not have problems. I almost challenged working with difficult people.
Pros: high opportunity for promotion

Good learning curve
Statistics South Africa is mandated with collection of official statistics to promote evidence based policy making, measurement of policy implementation and monitoring and evaluation. The various surveys that it conducts are based on international practice in terms of data collection, analyses, methodology and final output.

Pros: Statictics SA its a project oreinted organisation we do have continues data collection and the analysing of the projects thereof do take an agle of those organisation which operate continuosly. iTs not you typical National department organisation.

The great learning curve
Working at statistics SA has given me a opportunity and exposure to data engineering I have established a great working relationship with my colleagues in a sense that they always ask me to do things for them and I faithfully do and deliver on time, this is to say I am reliable. I have learned to do any kind of work no mater how difficult, small or big it is because at the end you get to be exposed and gain experience. The most challenging aspect of the Job is that there is lot of work to do but there is no enough staff to do it which leaves me with having to do work of three people that are vacant and the department has frozen the posts.but still work progresses and I am faithfully delivering.
Pros: Great opportunity to learn different design of what could have been done by others.
Cons: More tasks to do in a short space of time.

Economist
I have enhance my problem solving skill, research skills, Interpersonal skills, Communication skills, Numerical and analytical skills, analyzing and interpretation of financial statements. I do compile statistical publications and releases of National, provincial and consolidated general government.
Pros: Good interactions with stakeholders.
Cons: Travel a lot.

Learning curve
I am currently working as a principal economist at Statistics South Africa. My responsibilities are and not limited to; conducting research and providing input on formulation of economic policies to improve short term economic indicators. I am a resourceful and ambitious economist with extensive understanding of economic theory and its practical implications.
