South African Airways Reviews

Customer service champion

Working here is a very challenging as we have to deal with angry and frustrated passengers all the time by ourselves and we give suggestions on how to improve retain passengers,we are not taken serious. We are paying fines for little small mistakes and they come in USD and we end up paying roughly R40-50 000 fines. We are not safe,as anyone can walk in and shoot or assault us.

Pros: Project management
Cons: Fines

Programme Management of ITS project

Program manage the implementation of IT systems within the SAA organization. Managing , controlling and facilitating tasks required to achieve the full implementation within scope , budget and time. Have a good relationship with co-workers and management. Deal with many 3rd party suppliers from infrastructure , data migration and development and support of the systems The learning in most projects is the regulatory requirements in the airline industry as well as the wonderful technology opportunities. Enjoy the constant interaction with people , the fast moving results and accomplishments when running a project with defined scope , time and budget. The people in this industry are very unionized and set in their ways which does pose challenges on the change management side when implementing new system.

Pros: Technology in this industry is fast moving and exciting
Cons: No opportunity for growth or promotion

Interactive learning curve

At South African airways, I have learned to work under pressure with or without supervision. Learn to differentiate your customers but still working within the company policy. With the experience I have gained it will go a long way in my life e.g being able to transform yourself after you had unpleasant customer swearing and calling all the worst names but still be able to assist the customer with great smile and satisfaction

Pros: We have a great number of employees as for promotion is very slim but possible, diverse cultures and beliefs yet customer experience and offering must be consistent
Cons: Irregular hours

My current proud moment

In my current position at an acting supervisor at the SAA Business Class International Lounge at the Johannesburg Airport, my day to day activities include, reading emails and giving feedback to the relevant parties, if there was a meeting attended, I need to write the minutes for that meeting and forward to supervisors and managers. I have to attend to passenger queries or complaints, make sure chefs and cleaners are doing their jobs. Do stock taking, and order stock to be used for the week. My job requires someone that can think on their feet, has quick decision making skills and good people skills, friendly attitude and very patient person, as the Johannesburg Airport is a fast paced environment.

Pros: I have had opportunity to travel and have learned confidence in my decision making and have learned to think on my feet.
Cons: Shifts

Great Learning Curve

am quite reliable and regular at work with a great attendance track record. I have been time and again appreciated by the clients and managers alike for my excellent time management abilities. I understand the significance of time and respect others' time. I have learnt professionalism, and i believe my communication skills have improved too. I work at large company which has enabled me to learn different character and it has also allowed me to be a flexible person. I enjoy being part of this team and adding value to the company. A challenge can be a language barrier but since our company is diverse, one can always get help from a collegue

Pros: Great Career Growth
Cons: Long Working jours
