SANDF Reviews

Good learning experience

It is a challenging job which keeps you on your toes. The only problem was out dated systems. It was a large responsibility which kept it interesting. The low salary increments were disturbing as not all departments within the organisation were compensated equally. I loved the fact that I got to manage a very diverse group of people on a daily basis. I was proud to have served my country so well for so long, but now its time for a new challenge.

Pros: Broad knowledge and exposure
Cons: Heavy workload with little recognition

An opportunity to learn logistics in a different environment

I worked for SANDF as a storeman, accounting Nco, filling clerk, receiving and issuing items capturing data the suppliers printing monthly reports, counting list for stocktaking doing verification of distribution accounts, printing and finalising issue vouchers. It was my responsibility to make sure that all the requirements from our clients were packed and issued on time and all the relevant signatures were acquired. Logistics is the same everywhere the only difference might be the working procedure and the document being used by the department as well as the policies are the same according to the PFMA. I hope and trust that i will hear from you soon as I am confident that I might be what you're looking for.

Pros: Great opportunity to work and learn new things from different environment
Cons: I don't have any problem with working hours

Fast learner, great communication skills, great adaptability skills, hard working

After high school I went on to work at Edgars before dedicating myself to the SANDF. Within the SANDF I travel around the world both internally and externally. The difficult thing about my duties is having to adapt to all kinds of environments, circumstances, living conditions as well as different cultures. As a person that is always meeting new people I would say I interact and connect very well with others. I am a self-driven young man who works extremely well under pressure and/or under no supervision, is independent, hardworking and trustworthy. I am able to adapt to different environments and I possess excellent communication and interactive skills. I make use of my past and current work experiences effectively in that I am very disciplined and follow rules very well. Additionally, I am willing to learn any necessary skills and overcome challenges that I may face going forward. I am a highly motivated and knowledgeable professional.

Pros: Flexable working hours
Cons: Having to be away from home more than half a year

This is a fresh opportunity for me

I was a Fin Manager at DoD School of Catering. Was responsible for cost effective running of the unit's Budget through out the year. I'm extremely accurate with mangement of finances. I will do everything my employer requires of me to be an asset to their company. I worked at the SANDF for 26 years and I felt the need to do something different. I had a great time serving my country, but need to see how it looks outside the Defense. I had no problem with working hours. In fact, I was at work from 6am till 3pm.

Pros: I worked at the SANDF for 26 years and I felt the need to do something different. I had a great time serving my country, but need to see how it looks outside the Defense.
Cons: I had no problem with working hours. In fact, I was at work at 6pm till 3am.

Excellent learning curve

I prefer working harder in the mornings because the mind is still fresh and more active than in the afternoons,I love people and learning new things from different individuals but I try to stay away from office politics as they can be very toxic. I have learned that each and every input fron the individual is important, either make use of it now or in the future And I love working with active competent people

Pros: Great opportunity for learning
Cons: Overtime

Excellent place to start a career

Not much room for creativity as the defense mainly focused on discipline and chain of command. The majority of senior people in the defense are not open to IT developments due to a high level of paranoia Ito security systems being hacked.

Pros: Highly disciplined environment
Cons: Command based instructions no room for creativity
