Rhodes University Reviews

Skills development and working with people.

A great opportunity to work with students especially those who were struggling with the transition from High school to University. I worked with great people who would also clarify things for me and we had a strong relationship. the most challenging part was map work where we had to do it and came with different answers and it was difficult to explain to students.

Pros: New oportunities
Cons: Long hours of work

Rhodes University overall work experience

Aa dynamic research university, smallest in the country yet generates some of the highest research outputs. Excellence in all areas is key and part of the organizational culture. Employees are driven and focused. Situated in a small rural town makes it very challenging for outside stakeholders to travel here.

Pros: Growth
Cons: Low salaries

It has been a lovely and educational experience.

I have a meeting once a week ad work with 10 other tutors. However tutorial sessions are taken with one tutor and about 20 students twice a week. I really enjoy engaging with the students and being able to help them see things differently. I have learnt to be more patient as people's understanding of various topics can differ and may take longer with each person. The most challenging aspect is the marking of scripts.

Pros: The students engage and many have improved their marks greatly.
Cons: There is quite a bit of marking

Excellent learning curve

I have laboratory experience in chemistry both in the field and in research settings as a Laboratory Technical Officer. In laboratory work, prepare practices for undergraduate students. This experience gave me the opportunity to work independently and close to my colleagues and helped me to learn the value of good laboratory practice. I also worked as a Chemical Store Manager doing verification of stores, perform chemical inventory, making orders, assist people with chemicals. Through my career experience, I have been able to accumulate the type of skills that are essential to be involved in a Technical department or environment.

Pros: Great opportunity for development
Cons: Flexible working hours

Fast learner, adaptable, A-achiever, great ommunication skills

I am a fine year Master of Commerce student at Rhodes University. My dream is to put my knowledge and skills into practice with a prestigious company such as yourselves, so that I may make an active contribution towards a better South Africa, one that is less plagued with poverty, inequality and unemployment; and I believe we can start with the South African Economy. I hope that my application is favourably considered. Yours Sincerely, Tarusha Chetty

Good entry level to get some work experience

It is a good start for an entry level position, though as time goes a person needs to grow. It is a busy environment, especially end of the year year when it's budget time. A very nice place to in. Working with financial spreadsheet, software licensing payments and the financial reports to the Director has helped me to find strength of my financial background.

Pros: Great experience for a start
Cons: No promotions
