Rhodes University Reviews

Good knowledge of all law fields.

I have been very fortunate to work at the Rhodes University Law Clinic as I have learnt so much about the law. I have been taught by my superiors that we must treat all clients with respect and care especially the elderly and underprivileged people. I graduated with my Law Degree from the University of Fort Hare, East London Campus in the academic year 2012 which was conferred in 2013. I am currently a candidate attorney and have received both my Office Administration certificate and IT certificate from Rhodes University during 2015. I strongly believe that my 3 years experience at the Rhodes University Law Clinic will make me a very competitive candidate for any available position as I can draft legal documents and have knowledge of the office administration with computer skills from the Rhodes University.

Pros: Opportunity for promotion
Cons: Long distance work

Wonderful learning experience

I work half-day at the moment on a contract basis that runs out in December. I check our social media accounts I interact socially with my co-workers as well as my supervisor and have good relationships with all of them I have learned more about the media environment that social media operates in and the audience we cater for. I love exploring how different audiences respond differently to different campaigns and different pages. I also enjoy looking at the comments and analytics of posts. The most challenging aspect is to get users' attention. Something you sometimes think will get tons of attention only gets very little and it's a bit of a let down.

Pros: Great learning opportunity
Cons: I'm not getting sufficient training in social media programmes and analytical tools and no agency experience

Experience as a laboratory co-ordinator

My typical working day starts off with me in the lab. Cleaning equipment for daily use, stock-taking of products and sourcing quotes. Ensuring that files are up to date and the supervisor is informed about any sudden changes that need their attention. Performing experiment and aiding colleagues in anything they need help with. I enjoy helping people when they're not sure how to approach a problem. I have a very open relationship with my colleagues in the working environment. I have learned invaluable management and communication skills during my studies.

Pros: Great place to better yourself as a professional
Cons: Struggling for months to get one experiment to work

Life in health and wellness

I worked at an institution of higher learning therefore there was a constant battle of trying to educate people who are of the understanding that they know everything and who are enjoying their freedom to be adults and don’t want to feel that they are being told what to do. This required creativity to ensure that the message gets across and is well received

Pros: No much room to grow
Cons: Autonomy

Current experience

I have been working in the company for almost 9 years and have enjoyed the interaction with people. I give professional advise to staff members accross the university and this includes the Head of the Departments, Managers, Administrative, Academic Staff and lower level staff. I have learnt the advantages of working in a team as in our office, we are a group of 7 people in an open plan so it makes every day enjoyable as even if you have a bad day, the team is there to support you. I really have good relationship with my co-workers

Pros: Teamwork
Cons: Not enough communication to staff members
