National Health Laboratory Services Reviews

Great opportunity

I work in a laboratory where a typical day starts at 7h30 am by greeting everyone and asking if there are new developments on outstanding work. I then sit for at least 5 minutes reading work emails then go through a daily plan which is 1. evaluating ancillary test specimens using a microscope 2. discussing the findings with a specialist 3. recording findings for a final histological report. This usually takes 30 minutes to two hours depending on complexity and the number of specimens evaluated.

Pros: Scarce skill
Cons: not family friendly

National health laboratory services - Tembisa Hospital

On a daily basis, when I get to work I start by checking the habdover report room temperature and bench decontamination file. Every week we have bench allocation roster and we look at the work follow what happens last night and take over. I then do my weekly report by reporting on the past week how did we perform and suggestions on what we should do to do better. Team work is the best and together we can share ideas and create a better working environment. Above all I have enjoyed all the people in my department and the knowledge I have grabbed from them and learnt. Most of all I have learned humanity and love. My department it's so small but it has a lot to be done daily and dealing with people it's really sometimes frustrating to a point we're you get that no one pitched for their shift and I have to stay till night shift staff comes in at 7pm. But that has given me to love and do my work to the best of my ability without complaints. Regards Comfort Siluma

Pros: Great for a person waiting for retirement
Cons: Abnormal hours

Great growth opportuinities

there is diversity in the company I have learnt how to deal with different people from different background and beliefs. every day is a learning day because there is always something new to learn or to attend to I enjoy seeing happy customers co-workers are the most pleasant people to work with especially because of the different lifestyles and backgrounds Not having concrete answers for customers on certain aspect is the most difficult because it means that the customer has benefited anything from us and not happy.

Pros: great opportunity for promotion
Cons: long working hours

Excellent learning curve

The company has employees that are considerate and we have good working relationships. The management is very quick to hear employees grievances. The training of the company is excellent. The Molecular Genetics specialty, which is my core specialty has colleagues that are very skilled and are always willing to share knowledge.

Pros: Great opportunity for growth
Cons: Takes longer to get promotion

Excellent learning experience

Excellent learning experience I had. Good laboratory practice, shift hours worked were more than the required time as per the working conditions. I have a good relationship with my core worker and my manager. I have to care for my patients by giving out reliable and quality results. I enjoy saving patients and leqrning new thimgs. Most challenging aspect was the time allocated for doing night shift.
