National Credit Regulator Reviews

EXCELLENT TEAM AND LEARNT ALOT

I received the complaints with the guidelines established by the National Credit Act in which I Identify and report irregularities, to the registrants who doesn’t comply with the act therefore prepare inspection requests stating the terms of reference and submit to the inspection supervisor for further action. I was the first point of contacts or consult when clients approach the institutions to lodge the compliant. I also offer telephonically advice and refer clients to the relevant institution when we don’t have the mandate. Make a recommendation to the Manager / Complaints Review Committee where the complaint cannot be resolved within pre-determined complaints parameters.

Pros: we learned alot
Cons: long working hours

Clear understanding of a Regulatory industry

It is tasked with carrying out education, research, policy development, registration of industry participants, investigation of complaints, and ensuring enforcement of the Act. I interact with all the departments because our department procures all their needs. I have very good interpersonal relationship with all my stakeholders. I have learnt a lot about Regulatory services and the important mandate that they need to uphold. What is most challenging is making sure that our internal stakeholders comply to our procedures and policies at all times and not take them for granted.

Pros: striving to get clean and unqualified audits every year as the SCM division
Cons: making the Exco understand how important the role of SCM/Procurement is to an entity.

Excellent learning curve

Steep learning curve in knowing complaint resolution in terms of the National Credit Act. Great staff to work with predominantly. A typical work day would include attending to walk in consumers, recording their complaints and forwarding same for capturing, keeping track of aged files and prioritizing, working with other departments to resolve allocated complaint files, attending to calls and giving advise for purposes of effective complaint resolution.

Pros: A challenging yet relaxed environment to work in
Cons: Remuneration not on par with industry standards

A Day in the life of a regulator

Despite best efforts to plan your day by drafting a list of actionable items while enjoying your first cup of coffee to the hubbub of early morning traffic, the demands placed on an industry regulator require a legal advisor to remain flexible and adaptable in order to meet the day's challenges. Prioritising high-profile matters & attending to impromptu meetings proved crucial to adding value to the organisation's mandate. I was part of a vibrant, dynamic and robust team that always managed to set aside personal differences and combine all efforts towards the achievement of the collective goal, for which individual credit was awarded where warranted. The most rewarding aspects of my tenure at the regulator was the constant exposure to the different areas of the national credit market as well as being afforded opportunities to grapple with intricate legal, policy, regulatory & jurisprudential aspects of the National Credit Act.

Pros: Exposure to regulating an entire industry
Cons: Flat organogram with limited opportunity for advancement

Great leadership

My organisation has an open door policy, i have access to my CEO to discuss work related issues that affect and impact on our organisation. I sit on the employee staff forum and get to understand what the challenges of each departments are. My colleagues are very professional and very friendly. I enjoy the confidence that my manager has in me, he trust me with my decisions and gives me the opportunity to apply my mind and come with new innovative of doing things. I have been in the same position for almost four years and i feel its time that i move to another level in my career, the challenge in my organisation is that there are no opportunities as the structure is flat. I have learned a lot in the past four years.

Pros: Have a lot to learn and take on more responsibilities
