I have acquired extensive management and governance experience whilst at this organisation.

My current company deals with ground breaking legislation and I find it very interesting working here. I am constantly learning new aspects that relate to the protection of our environment, my work day is definitely not boring or predictable. Two of the Directorates that report to me deal with litigation, in Pta and Cape Town, we are always busy with urgent court applications. I have an excellent working relationship with my co-workers, most of them are specialists in their respective fields, therefore I find my interactions with them very interesting. I enjoy that my work is not boring and that it constantly challenges me. The most challenging aspect is trying to please my political principals whilst still maintaining by legal integrity.

Pros: It is a great opportunity to learn more about a very specialised area of law, namely Environmental Legislation
Cons: Conflicting instructions which is not supported by legislation

The Department of Environmental Affairs

The current work environment at the department of environmental affairs is a multi disiplinary environment as such exposing one to different work challenges and archievements. The chief directorate chemical and waste management on its own couldnt be what it is without the directorates that make it including Land remediation and Licencing of waste management activities. Issueing Land Remediation Orders and Licences involves analysing site assesment reports accurately in order to come to the best environmentally friendly decision, attention to detail and the guiding of the national norms and standards is crucial.

Pros: Travelling
Cons: Backlog and late processing of applications
