Transnet Reviews

Learning curve

Transnet has trained me to become a world class quality welder and failed to give me a permanent position. I have learned a lot about welding position, quality and value of your work. The biggest challenge of it is working long hours and earning peanuts by end of the month. I have a great relationship with my fellow workers, we work as a team most of the times

Pros: Great opportunity for enhancing my skill
Cons: Long working hours

Excellent work

Transnet is a Company where Safety is the number 1 priorities. We focus more on business and we also want to deliver our goods on time. We emphasize Safety as we are working in an environment where trains can move at any time. We all know how dangerous the trains can be while in motion. Our Company also reward and recognize good performance of its employees. Our culture at Transnet is that we respect each and every employee irrespective of their grade, gender and religion. We also work together as a team always. The most challenging thing about my job is that I am dealing with train person who works tirelessly to get the job done and they expect their remuneration to be 100% at the end of the month. Some of them don't have the heart to talk to people especially during their signing off time.

Pros: Great opportunity for development
Cons: none

My years as Cost Engineer

I start off my work day by reading emails to see if there are any urgent matters I need to attend to. I then proceed to updating Cost Reports for each project, include current payments and implement change management where necessary.I liaise a lot with Procuement,Contract Admin,Planner and Quantity Surveyor so my relationship with them is fairly good. In y 4 years of Cost Engineering I have been exposed to Total Cost management – plan & control resources, costs, profitability and risk throughout lifecycle of project.I enjoy supporting the Project Managers throughout the lifecycle of projects as this is the designation I am working towards, I learn a lot from them. The most challenging aspect is nit getting approvals on time from the client. Approvals of Project change notices or monthly claims. This delays further processes on our end.

Pros: We get perfomance bonuses and training and development is highly supported
Cons: Career progression is limited- No Junior to Senior to Junior Manager to Senior Manager progression. It is currently only Junior to Manager
