South African National Defence Force Reviews

Excellent learning curve and great experience

My current work place is a friendly environment but at times very tense due to the last minutes required designs. I have learned to pay very special attention to detail and also to embrace criticism and grow from it instead of losing focus just because of criticism. My relationship with colleagues is very good because we help each other when it comes to the designs, information, sharing useful information for designs or skills developing etc we work as a team. I enjoy working on site and seeing displays of our designs at big events.

Pros: Great Experience and improves work ethics.
Cons: You only have 8 hours to do everything each day.

Was a good learning curve

I am at work by 8 o’clock, as we all start at 8 and the knock of at 16:00. Sometimes I finish a bit later because of being alone in a department and I need to finish up some admin work or because I am needed at another unit. I have a good relationship with my co-workers. I have learnt that time management is key to running a department successfully. I enjoy having to be on the road a lot but that comes with its own price as admin can suffer. The most challenging aspect of this job was having to draw up Financial Authorities for major items that are required.

Pros: Getting to network with new people everyday
Cons: Falling behind with office admin on days when things are really busy

This opportunity is an excellent learning curve

During every specific day of work, I work enthusiastically in any work challenges on my table. I tackle challenges of the day as a learning curve and therefore that's the way experience is gained under trying times. I always engage my co-workers on complex administrative issues at their level to streamline strategic intent at the earliest level rather than be surprised by the end result. It is important to treat every worker as an asset of the company than see them as less valuable. Good example, in military every soldier add value in every minute way therefore the same concepts should apply in every corporate business organisation. Co-workers must feel that their inputs are considered and that they are been regarded as the most important asset for the organisation. The most challenges of the job is the integration of operating systems that leads to cooperate strategic goal.

Pros: Looking forward to be considered for promotion at the right time. My work output should promote me than been favoured because am close to someone important.
Cons: I have worked under pressure day and night of my life during strategic planning, so therefore its fine with me as long as the objective of the company are met

I have gained more knowledge in understanding the procurement process.

I see it as a great opportunity to be working in a supply chain environment as you get to understand the procurement process better and you get to learn each and everyday. What i have learned most is that not everyone understands the whole procurement process because on daily basis suppliers come to enquirer about how to get in to the business of being a supplier and how to register your own company. I enjoy working to people and learning everyday as everyday comes with its own challenges. The most challenging aspect about this job is immediately when people hear that you working in procurement they start expecting a lot from you.

Pros: great opportunity for promotion
Cons: long working hours

Excellent learning curve.

Working and being trained by the defence force as shaped me into the responsible and hard working woman that Iam today. I've have learn so much from my colleagues and superiors and am forever grateful. I have become stronger in the following areas; communication, leadership, planning, punctuality, administration and problem solving. Even though the Physical aspect of the job was difficult, but having support from those around me kept me going. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. The SANDF is my family, working for them was a dream come true.

Pros: Great opportunity for a person who has never worked before
Cons: Strenuous exercises

Excellent learning curve with an opportunity to travel and work with different people

Excellent learning curve with an opportunity to travel and work with different people. You get to be exposed to different career paths. What do not like is they don't give people the opportunity to explore those careers. I would like to see them investing in their people.

Pros: Get to work with different people and travel.
Cons: Struggle to get contracts and call ups if you are a reserve force member.
