Sapref Reviews

The Sapref RBI project has taught me another aspect of the pressure equipment industry.

Typically the Sapref RBI Inspection project I would performing owner/user reviews of pressure equipment inspection reports in order to compile the RBI equipment histories. These history documents are included in an operations assessment. In the assessment the various corrosion degradation mechanisms are determined. According to these identified degradation mechanisms a pressure equipment inspection strategy is developed, in accordance with Shell procedures and API RP571 & API RP581 requirements, in preparation for corrosion engineer assessment. These equipment strategies are created for each pressure equipment to determine the specific inspection and Non Destructive Examination process to most accurately and effectively inspect equipment. This function has required me to liaise with various professionals and given me a better understanding of the Petrochemical process and the different effects chemical, heat, pressure and material types have.

Pros: This has been a very interesting learning curve
Cons: There are many repetitive tasks to perform

Excellent learning curve

Always working over the 8 hours. Start day off by monitoring the unit but is often interrupted by short term troubleshooting items. Within my team my relationships are good. They offer comfort and understanding but lack trust as everyone is fighting for the next step. Relationships in other disciplines are tense. I have learned basic engineering principles such that I can breakdown any problem and solve the root cause. I have developed soft skills as a mentor and a junior member of a group. I enjoy the discovery of optimization - making the best out of what I have. I enjoy test runs since they question limitations and generic view points. Management and prioritization of tasks has been difficult due to the structure of the organization. Getting a hold of the latest technologies is also challenging - too much bureaucracy. Development opportunities along a specialized path are difficult to come by.

Pros: Great opportunity to learn
Cons: Limited structure therefore reporting line is not clear. Limited structure therefore moving to management is unlikely.

Is a good place to work .

I enjoy to do troubleshooting and make good recommendations for repair . I learn to use PI to help me with troubleshooting. I learn that if I am not clear about the task given I can ask. My most challenging was the shutdown time , because I have to work with different people from different place . I have to be in the same level as them ,that was helping me to lead the shutdown on plane and safe. I am enjoying to train joiner artisans , apprentices and apps team about rotating equipment's.

Pros: Supervisor
Cons: If necesssry
