National Treasury Reviews

Excellent learning institution

I joined the National Treasury a year and 7 months ago, working as an Organisational Development Specialist. With supportive management, I have learnt a lot and have been given challenging projects to sharpen my OD and Talent management skills. It has been fun yet challenging as I come from an environment where I was given autonomy and employees views were considered. Currently Im a specialist but at times I feel like an admin clerk. I am ready to move to work another company, where Ill be able to excel in my work, be appreciated, respected and trusted to do my job as a specialist. I have good working relationships with my colleagues and I am able to assist in lifting up employee moral within the team

Pros: GREAT TRAINING INSTITUTION
Cons: NO PROMOTIONS

Newly developed organization

Newly developed government entity, flexible environment...need to think on your feet impliment new process and procedures - proactive working under pressure ,team work and professionalism. I enjoy the challenge that comes with a new establishment as there still needs to be capacity growth which will relate to growing in my own capacity as an HR Officer and see how far I can apply myself in assisting with the growth and development of the company.

Pros: Great opportunity for growth applaying yourself ,learning new systems and procedures .implimenting new polices
Cons: Inconstancy, lack of policies and procedures or still on draft and there is nothing to refer to as official documents

Excellent Learnng curve

I was given the opportunity to grow and learn every day. Challenging myself to do better. I have met so many people from various countries. Most challenging was the long hours that we work during Budget period. We were a small office of 12 people but we all got along and felt like family.

Great exposure

The organisation allows for great exposure in different industries. Relationship with co-workers is very professional and worthy. Tgere is great work-life balance, especially when you have a ery good relationship with your boss and they understand the dynamics of your life. However, there is limited career growth for a startup.

Pros: Great exposure to different industries
Cons: Limited career growth for a startup

Eagle's view

I consult on risk management, and deal and respond to risk management technical queries. I monitor and review the status of risk management implementation within the public sector and develop risk management frameworks, guidelines, tools and templates to address any shortcomings from the said study. I also facilitate risk management knowledge sharing platforms and manage systems (eLearning, BarnOwl, Risk Management Maturity) on risk management designed to assist officials within the public sector. I also serve in various committees, including two in the Institute of Risk Management South Africa, in the quest of improving the state of risk management within the private and public sector. I have a great relationship with my manager and colleagues, and we work well together to ensure that goals are attained. I have also learnt the importance of team work and enjoy brainstorming sessions on improving work and i love developing and editing guidelines and frameworks on risk management.

Pros: Great learning platforms as our work is designed to interact with different disciplines within the public and private sector. This gives me great opportunity for continuous learning and exposure.
Cons: Growth within the career ranks is limited.
