First National Battery Reviews

Adaptability, good communication skills, social skills, creative thinking, problem solving, hands-on

A typical work day includes production reviews, Overall Equipment Efficiency analysis, downtime investigation, process studies, layouts and production meetings The work environment is welcoming to everyone. it is a friendly environment and we work together regardless of departmental limits and we focus on moving the company forward together I have learned to work with teams and individually as well, good work ethics, approach to problem identification and solving and people management I enjoy tackling problems everyday, meeting new challenges and finding new ways of carrying out activities and projects. The challenges i face are working longer hours from time to time, work load and having to prioritize tasks everyday and working under pressure from time to time to finish work on time and meet deadlines

Pros: good career growth, good exposure,
Cons: working under constant pressure, tight deadlines, long hours and a lot of urgent tasks in one time frame

Good for working environment knowledge

Start of a day with a meeting, talk about previous shift breakdowns and future maintenance plans. Lack of understanding from maintenance team players always a challenge between artisans and assistants due to management putting a lot of pressure on the foreman. I have learned about hand tools, procesure to attend to breakdowns and safety measure that must be taken to complete the job.i enjoy working with both my mind and hands, the challenging aspects is to attend a breakdown with limited knowledge or training as sometimes management would say it's a learning curve for experience.

Pros: Great opportunity to start a career
Cons: Long hours

Excellent learning curve

my typical work day starts at 6am and usually that time u have to start with quick tests so you can keep production going and multi tasking comes along way, sometimes you have to do 3 different tests at once. and having a good working relationship with my co-workers helps alot in terms of planing for the day and in making sure that you get your work and theirs in time. automotive industry requires speed and takes alot of pressure so having a good communication skills and relationship with co-workers is a bonus. what ive learnt here at FNB since its a male dominated company is to stand my ground and not let anyone to bully me just because im a female and i enjoy taking on challenges that expand my limit and power necause sometimes you look at a challenge and you start to doubt yourself but the minute you start working on it you gain this enormous power.

Pros: learning curve
Cons: poisonous environment and less promotions

Excellent learning experience but no growth potential

First National Battery is a great company to work for and learn because their manufacturing processes enable you to use various electrical testing equipment from tong tester, mega, multimeter, 4-20 ma tester, power tools, calibration torque wrenches and various testing equipment and how to properly use the above. The plant is predominantly a combustion plant as 90% of the plant is has a process involving naked flames form the grid casting, VRLA assembly and concast moulds because we also make our own oxide we use screw and conveyor belts, we also have a five ton LPG gas boiler which I installed and commissioned in 2016 and the reason I joined this company. I was appointed to oversee this department as a registered combustion specialist and gas practitioner. The plant is highly automated with machines such Cos 8, hi-tek, jaw welder, post burners, lid seal and so forth.

Pros: Learnt a great deal on how to use electrical testing equipment, power tools and moulds
Cons: No growth opportunities

A good learning curve but a room of improvement is expected

A typical day would be doing the routen tests such as sodium sulfate then calibrate the pH meter. The relation with my co workers is a professional which ended up in great friendships as we work closely and the laboratory is small. I have learned to work pleasantly and professionally with minimum supervision. I enjoyed the variety of the analysis done, testing raw materials and the finished product and not being limited and always stuck at the laboratory, having to work and interact with the workers in production lines and chemical engineers. The most challenging aspect of the job would be the hazardous chemicals being tested and the fact that wearing a respirator at all times when working with the lead containing samples.

Pros: Great working environment
Cons: No opportuity of promotion

Electrical technician+electrical trade and instrument trade

HI. I started at rock bottom as an apprentice and worked myself up to project manager at the same company for 11 years. It took me hard work and a lot of experience to get to where I am. I never stopped gaining knowledge in different industries and even different fields such as; mechanical, pipe fitting, boilermaking and welding. I had to get out of construction due to benifits and for my future, but now I'm working hard again in very automated and advanced industries and I learned a lot more to also bring to your company just, I'm looking for the opportunity.

Pros: Opportunity for promotion
Cons: Work circumstances

I learned that team work is one o f the best thing people should focus on. Having good relationships with your senior is good because you will be able to tell them if you find difficulties. I enjoyed working with density meter testing sulphuric acid with different specific gravity. I also enjoyed working with AAS and uv/vis they are very fast and accurate

Pros: Great opportunity for me to learn as a chemist
Cons: We were working normal working hours

Continuous learning

The environment is friendly and male dominated as there is warehouse and a factory running in the same premises. At first I used to be intimated by them because I was coming from a more corporate environment. I enjoy the warmth and continuous learning of in the automotive industry. I think changing industries has enhanced my skill sets and exposed me to a different way of doing things.

Pros: New skills and different environment
Cons: Limited growth due to limited scope
