Big4 Tax professional Pan-African Engagements with Management Consulting

My last employer being EY : - Typical day at work is arrive, have a meeting with the executive team on what is the focus areas for the week. Planting actions and deadlines for the week - I have a real good relationship with my colleagues. -Constantly learning in this space. Each day there was something new. Through budgeting and costing analysis on strategic global projects and the Tax business. Identifying low hanging fruit and deep diving on how to better be efficient and make tough decisions where needs me. Learning to be agile in the fragile market -Working with different people each day, whether globally or through out Africa. Being able to build relationships and stretch my thinking when I get given a task where I need to apply my mind and build out a model for the Tax leadership to consider and refine. - Constantly being challenged in how we approach issues we face with the businesses in Tax. Growing the business and ensuring we meet margins.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion, to work on bigger assignments - Having being asked by the Africa CEO to work with him in a Project Lead capacity on secondment due to my strong background and experience in Coordination and Project Management given my network through out Africa and Global reach
Cons: At times you do not feel valued due to what you get paid, you always have to work harder when you get opportunities which reinforce the reasons to why you get identified for positions

Work Culture

Excellent work environment, co-workers are generally friendly. There is usually a vast array of opportunities with great exposure especially if you are a good trainee, However if you are a work horse and love the thrill of constant pressure and lots of work then I believe this may not be the place as the work is seasonal and there may be long periods which are quiet.

Pros: Exposure to large JSE Listed Clients
Cons: Long hours, inconsistent work allocation

Review

OoiVarious tasks, including tax compliance, SARS queries, internal admin. I have a good relationship with colleagues. I have learnt many processes, risk management, etc. I enjoy dealing with people as well as the practical side of tax compliance. Most challenging part but also enjoyable part is pressure deadlines

Great learning curves for audit professionals.

N/Day to day responsibilities include planning of Financial Reporting Update events; involvement in tracking accreditation for managers who are required to be accredited in order to work on audit engagementz. Managing the suspense code. Some of the challenges experienced are that development/growth for all staff is not equal, some individuals are given more support than others.

Pros: Great opportunity for growth for audit professionals.
Cons: Inequalities; lack of transformation; potential for growth for non-audit professionals is difficult.

Life Changing Knowledge Curve

I have gained extensive knowledge within Labor Law&Relations during my tenure at the company.Being a team of only 3 individuals who serve it is imperative that good communication,teaming,collaboration&patience is shown within the team dynamics.My relationship with my co-workers is one based on mutual respect,trust in each other's strengths,support in each other's developmental areas&integrity to deal with the stressors of the job.What i enjoy most about my job,is the ability to apply legislative and legal knowledge within an HR sphere&provide guidance.The most challenging aspect of my job,is I specialize within the industrial relations aspect&as such that includes investigating misconduct matters,deriving to an outcome of possible disciplinary action&enforcing that disciplinary action.I rely on my judgement and objectivity within the role& I am able to carry out my daily duties,which range from misconduct matters,to initiating hearings,drafting addendums to contracts or representing the company at the CCMA.

Cons: long working hours; organizational restructures; redundancy due to automation
