Excellent management experience

The DHET is a well oiled machine and caters for youth who left school. A typical work day will be to register students, meet with stakeholders, students, staff, Officials from DHET and Basic Education, etc. I have a very open relationship with co-workers and believe in participative management, where collective decisions is taken, considering all factors. I have learned to achieve the most with a limited budget. I enjoy growing as a person, motivating staff, students and parents. This ensure that everyone grow the businerss, grow personally, keeps motivated and live in harmony with one another. The most challenging aspects of the job is to deal with politics. Politics undermine growth.

Pros: great benefits
Cons: stressfull

Great learning opportunity

A typical work day for me includes answering emails, out out files if there's any, capturer terminations , leave on Persal, assist with recruiments, trainings and day to day activities. My work relationship with my co-workers is very healthy, social and a familty like type of culture. I have learned how to be punctual, be a critical thinker, pay attention to details, maintain confidentiality at all cost, how to be empathatic when dealing with people, self managemnt skills, work within instructions and meeting deadlines. I really enjoyed exploring different parts of my joband also working in a different office than what i have studied for which is Finance department.. the most chllenging part of my job is the workload tends to be too much coming from different aspects.

Pros: Better growth environment
Cons: Working overtime with no pay

Great work experience, highly knowledgeable

I am passionate about this area of work (research coordination and management, capacity development in higher education). I am a very focused person who has a great work ethic. I have qualifications to back my experience, BA honours, Masters in Educational Planning and Management, and currently pursuing a PhD degree. I know it would be difficult for the Department to lose me, but I believe I will be better placed in this position as it will provide me with an opportunity for growth and further development.

Pros: explore new avenues and further development
Cons: normal working hours

Good to learn a lot about all trades

I started working for the government on 01 November 2009, i were very excited to work for the government because of there would be growth opportunities but to no wail. I have been in my current position since 2009. Being a trade assistant in the workshops, assisting with trades and candidates, getting everything ready for the candidate, paints, doors, etc. After the candidate is done with his/her test i have to clean the workshop and pack away all tools used and the panels as well. I do have a good relationship with most of my co-workers.

Pros: no growth opportunities
Cons: Monday to Friday working days

Excellent co-workers, I have enjoyed the travelling and engaging with different companies.

Working for the governemnt is not as challenging as the private sector, usually some ideas will not work because they were not either approved or given as an instruction by top management.

Pros: Great opportunity to working with client requirements and assistance
Cons: No growth
