Great working environment

it is Managed Services company. we deal with a lot of clients, the setup is different from previous Managed Services companies I have worked with. We deal with one client per team, it is a UK client. Typical day will consist of a lot of calls, logging into clients' machines to assist them remotely, chasing up on outstanding incidents. the work environment is good, everyone is a team player, it is one of those places you never want to leave, not because of the job, but because of the people. It is a very difficult place to learn anything, because of the systems put in place to perform your daily tasks. Users are very friendly, so it is very easy to assist them, they make the job very rewarding management is the main issue. There is a complete structural collapse, processes are there, but not adhered to. nepotism is the order of the day when it comes to growth and education

Pros: 22 leave days per annul
Cons: Long hours

Information Technology.Installing of hardware and software components.Repairing of Operating Systems

A typical work day: I usually start my work at 7:30 am, collaboratively plan my day, and make sure that the most urgent work gets done first. My relationship with co-workers: Develop people skills. Identify my relationship needs. Schedule time to build relationships. Appreciate others. Be positive. Manage my boundaries. Avoid gossiping. What i have learnt: We get treated in life the way we teach others to treat us. People deserve a second chance. If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody will. What i enjoy most: I love to read. Whenever I get time I try to read as much as possible. Reading can take you to places. You can explore the world through a book. You can live many lives through a book. The most challenging aspects of my job: Dealing with all types of people and situations, meeting deadlines for various projects.

Pros: Hardwork and dedication
Cons: 6:00 - 18:00

Great place to gain first line experience

Having to sign in and out of the building with fingerprints. Need to accumulate 8 hours per day on the project tracker that tracks your fingerprint scans. Water, coffee, tea, milk, cereal and such is free. Canteen has a kitchen, xbox, pool table and a few vending machines as well as dstv with the compact bouquet. Not always enough parking here. Co-worker relationships are great, but micro-management plays a big role in demotivation. Learn a lot as to great customer service, some technical skills, but mostly soft skills were learnt. I enjoy solving user issues and enabling them to have a smooth day at work. Nothing at all challenging about this job. Unable to get promoted to senior as they keep bringing in external seniors with no PC knowledge.

Pros: None
Cons: External seniors instead of promoting strong, long-service juniors

Good company to learn and grow.

Computacenter is a good company to work for in terms of learning new technologies, a typical work day involves having daily meetings with our release managers to discuss upcoming scheduled deployment and issues relating to our previous releases. Working closely with our co-workers from the UK is very good and a good learning experience to deal with international professionals in the IT industry. The biggest learning curve has been following process and technical skills related to software support because I come from a Server support background. I have enjoyed the big projects I have been involved in whereby we have had to remediate the whole environment with all the relevant MS Security updates\Application upgrades. The most challenging aspect of the work is the hours we have had to put in due to short resourcing. I have grown to love the company since joining at a young age immediately after my service in the army, I have also seen us(CC) grow from 300 to now over 1000 employees.

Pros: Learning new technologies
Cons: Resourcing to cover work

Hardworking, extremely technical and knowledgeable within the field

I work on a 12 hour shift 24/7 shift basis within a 7 man team. I am currently the 2IC (2nd in command) to the Team Leader. I take up the responsibility of Training the new starters within the Operational Command Center. Working in the OCC has taught me Multiple sides to all aspects of Information Technology and has broadened my knowledge within the field of Virtualisation, MSSQL,MySQL querying, Multiple server Operating systems such as Linux and Unix. The most challenging part would be to stand out and be noticed for doing excellent work and going the extra mile.

Pros: Close to living area.
Cons: No opportunity for promotion.

Excellent

The intellectual property gained through my employment experience and continued education to date has stood me in good stead. Highly motivated added with a teachable and positive attitude has lead me to approach challenges with confidence. Being passionate about the law and business has increased my exposure within the field. With a flair for compliance and client management, analyzing industry trends in relation to auditing has been my exposure thus far.

Pros: Learning opportunity
Cons: lack of growth

Could be better Service Management

My personal typical day is doing an analyst, tech lead, manager and sometimes service managers work depending on the need of the client - I start typically at 6:30am and end 6pm because there's not enough hours in the day - I'm asked to assist with all these tasks but when I asked for a salary increase I get told its not in the Service Managers scope to make that decision but it's fine because I actually enjoy my job Challenging part of my job is when I have to make use of the office computer because a laptop cannot be provided to me as they don't want me working from home because its too much work

Pros: People I work with
Cons: Long working hours

Making a Difference

My specific role is extremely strenuous however very satisfying. With some big names in their respective fields our customer strive for excellence, quality and dedication. My team have pushed through this year with some enormous challenges which would bring most to tears, however with the constant support of their colleagues and leaders they managed to ensure the customers Aged Incidents dropped from 20000 in January to less than 1000 in December. Our processes changed about 3 times in one year, learning new processes, new systems and still expected to maintain SLA the guys stayed after work to complete assignments, learn the systems and assist one another in finishing as a team My company has taught me what great team work can achieve, how the voice of your people can make the difference between maintaining and losing business. I love my team and my company and if they were able to match my salary expectation I would never consider leaving.

Pros: Awesome Team Morality
Cons: Salary is below market stabdard
