South African Bureau of Standards Reviews

Good opportunity to interact with people

The work was flowing daily, challenges were there but they were not difficult to deal with.the clients from inside and outside were easy to deal with.but as in intern it was difficult to find an opportunity for growth. I have learnt to work effectively and efficiently especially When it comes to clients needs.

Pros: Great opportunity to improve soft skills
Cons: no opportunity for personal growth

Excellent opportunity to add value as a project & programme manager

The SABS is currently under adminstration and, as such, in dire need of value-adding initiatives, delivered in short succession and reestablishing credibility in the market as as a standards creator and guardian. If a person is able to trive within change and uncertainty, the SABS is definitely the place to work.

Pros: Opportunity to be creative
Cons: Uncertainty due it being under administration

Chance to gain experience

The days varied some where quiet during the end of the contract periods but it was mostly busy. My relationship with co-workers was good as i'm a humorous person by nature i loved cheering people up making them laugh also i'm a good listener. I've learn't to broaden my horizons and make every attempt and effort to learn new things. Working with new people and existing co-workers and clients and applying my mind and experience to what i do. Trying to figure out solutions to problems I've never encounted before usually i found it best to brainstorm with the rest of my team even though i was Technical Manager of my department and come to a solution.

Pros: Chance to meet new people and being responsible taking ownership for my job.
Cons: Salary, lack of promotion

Excellent Learning Curve

SABS is a challenging working environment. I had a good relationship with my co-workers in my years I worked for SABS. I have learnt a lot within HR space hence I end up being a generalist, good knowledge of he policies and legislation. Working with people, the interaction that i had with my colleaques. Able to make different in someones life. And to give them advises where i can.

Pros: long working hours
Cons: minimal personal development
