Excellent exposure and learning curve

Working for my Current Employer SIEMENS Energy and construction division has been great. While building one of the biggest Fossil Fuel Power stations in the world I have been exposed to experienced construction on an international level. As a Construction Site Manager, Planning, meetings and site work and inspections along with constant problem solving is part of my daily routine and challenges. I work with many ethnic groups and have colleagues from all over the world with which I have an excellent working relationship.

Pros: Great opportunities, experience and international level exposure
Cons: Away from home for weeks at a time.

One of the best companies in ive worked for.

One of the best companies to work at. Great opportunities within the companies and you can always move to another department once you feel youve learnt all you need to know within that department. We are faced with some challenges on a daily basis, company employees are very welcoming and positive. Ive learnt how important it is to work in a team. One of the things i enjoy about working here is when your hard work actually pays off and the project your currently working on comes together.

Pros: Opportunity for growth
Cons: Working long hours

Communicating to most Stakeholders assist in completing the projects easier.

My typical working day is management (projects, capital, etc) Working Hard and keeping all stakeholders in the projects assist in completing the project within Time, Costs and to the expectation of each customers. I enjoy my on-going daily Meetings, more that 100% of daily communications finding solutions for our customers issues/problems. Most challenging aspects of my job is global time as I am working for international company, and some times due to different times I have to work even outside normal hours to be able to reach out to our branches outside South Africa

Pros: By following Siemens PMO structure there is an opportunities of Promotion levels to Project Director
Cons: Site work outside South Africa away from home, travelling a lot including international travel

Excellent Track Record.

Besides Trying to meet my daily schedule, I have to cope with the project managers, making decisions that negatively effect compliance. This has to be managed, changes effected and due diligence to be met. The lack of planning also effects work capacity as I have to go out of my way to manage delivery dates, confirmations and in-bound consignments. Although these issues occur at random and at the drop of a hat, it does add "flavour" to your day-to-day tasks and provides an opportunity to install principles, policies and build better relationships with stakeholders. Comments like "it is procurement's fault" which was used regularly when I started here two years ago are now used rarely which shows me that the service I provide are effective and efficient which in turn makes me feel like a ling when collecting my monthly salary and annual bonus.

Pros: Management support.
Cons: Project environment.

Great experience gained working in team with international culture and diversity.

Work in high pressure design and manufacturing environment, where performance and outputs have large up and down stream implications if not produced to standard and quality. Work environment is generally under pressure, however a good relationship exists between co-workers who are dedicated. Regretfully there is always the deadwood in any organisations which those dedicated have to carry for free! What I enjoy most is working and large scale projects and collaboration with international teams whereby network can be built. The most important lesson learnt for me is to understands the dynamics of diverse groups of people and mastering the various way in which leadership and communication needs to be conveyed. Conveying a clear and concise message, once all parties are on the same page and chasing the same target 50% of the job is already complete. MAKE SURE ALL ARE CHASING THE SAME TARGET!

Pros: International exposure
Cons: Lack of career growth
