Gained a lot of experience and a learning curve

We as controller work 2 in a shift. We work 3 day shifts and 3 night shifts. During the day especially in the mornings the work load is not that much, in the afternoons that's when the work comes in until the time the shift end. The most challenging thing about the job is when we receive calls about cable theft, the problem is that we work in the control room and we relay on the guards at the railway line to give us accurate information of the theft so that we can write a proper report to management and give proper feedback to Transnet nerve centre. My partner and I help each other when there are things we are not certain about so that the report we write makes sense for management to be able to read and understand it. My relationship with my co-worker is great because we work as a team and we have an understanding.

Pros: I see no room for promotion and that is why i am looking for another job where i can grow in
Cons: long working hours, 12 hours shifts

Great place to learn and explore your potentiality

Good team work and communication between management and controllers. Day to day communication with clients. It's a wonderful experience to have full different sites and clients responsibilities. I enjoyed most when I win in solving problems and assist anyone relying on me as a manager on duty. My motivation was when start managing different officers in different sites with different backgrounds and different behaviors but manage to train and skilled them so we ending up all working as a team with a same vision and behavior to be responsible security officers to provide excellent security services to our clients,that made me feel bravo. I can assure you now that my relationship with my officers on different sites is healthy and good.I make sure I support them and give them backup when they need me most and in return they don't want to disappoint and they try harder to perform up to their abilities. It's a challenging duty but enjoyable in a team working spirit.

Pros: Yeah promotion opportunities are there but no clear selection system of how candidates get elected for promotion.
Cons: Always long hours

I really enjoy working with my team we always help one another to make sure the company was at its best.we work as a team n our relationship with our client was excellent,I have learned a lot from my team that no matter how big the job is BT if you working together n respect one another we can do more,the most challenging thing was a spillage we have to make sure the company is sparkling clean n every one drop whatever he or she was doing when we have a spillage every one attend to that spillage even if its not your department you go n help

Pros: I started as a hygen controller the gt promoted as a supervisor
Cons: We start working at 7 and knock off at 16:00

Excellent learning curve

I am currently an Human Resource Administrator at Servest Landscaping & Turf, we have a staff complementary of around 5000 where majority are blue collar employees; some of my key functions are recruitment and selection, employee engagement, support and assistance; Transformation, Employment equity as I am currently the secretary of the committee; Benefits administration; salary contracts; reporting; Payroll administration & ad-hoc projects asset. I deal with lot of people in different levels daily. My relationship with my co-workers and my staff is phenomenal as we have collectively won awards in 3 consecutive years. As I am currently running Maintenance of the Estate I have learnt a lot within an their programmes and how they deal with their issues daily as I am involve in a lot of discussions of their buildings. I enjoy meeting our targets and dealing with people. Managing quite a number of staff as currently I have 50 but the number goes up from time to time.

Pros: I have learnt a lot in this job and I got equiped with so much knowledge
Cons: Dealing with staff conflits everyday

No growth in the in the division

We work shifts, 3 day shift and 3 night shift. We work 2 per shift. My colleague's and I work as a team. We always communicate with each other, we help each other when we do not understand something. Communication plays a major role in our work so that we work in a smooth and proper way. The most challenging part about my job is when the is a cable theft on the rail line and the guards try to explain how the theft happened and the meters of the cable, what is difficult about that is that we can not see the cable and we do not know how the cable looks like and u have to write a report and give feedback about the theft to Transnet.

Pros: there are no opportunities for growth and promotion
Cons: Long working hours

Excellent training ground for targets and kpi's,

A very professional company, however there is no more room for growth. A normal work day entails targets, purchase orders, staff problems, meetings, putting out fires, dealing with companies.

Pros: An international company
Cons: There is lots of room for profit however this company doesn't like change
