Learning to work within a team of diverse people.

I have 18 years of experience working at PetroSA’s routine laboratory (Petrochemical), performing advanced analyses on final products like diesel, kerosene and petrol. I also test the quality of water used in the refining processes. Working with final products, where issuing of the Certificate of Quality is high priority, taught me how to work under pressure individually and as part of a team. I understand the success of the company depends on satisfying customers with good quality products and service on time. I also gained the experience in planning my work effectively when I receive urgent samples. Encountering problems when working with instruments has taught me to use my problem solving and troubleshooting skills. I use my analytical skills to recognise suspect samples and communicate them to the customer.

Pros: Rotating between the various laboratory within the routine laboratory.
Cons: I prefer to tidy my work area before I start working.

Obtained a wealth of skills

My experience at PetroSA was a good one for most of the time. It provided me with so many opportunities and room for growth, and I truly gained so many skills and knowledge. It has a very competitive salary structure and employees are rewarded adequately. The overall atmosphere at PetroSa used to be friendly and 'looser', yet professional. At first, being at work felt like being with family. My relationship with colleagues was always good and I got along well with almost everyone. I learned about international payrol administration, running payrol, medical aid administration, tax and mostly everything about paying salaries. I enjoyed the mix of interacting with employees daily, explaining when they don't understand something on their payslips etc. The challenging part was the annual tax submission! However, with good team and proper guidance, even that was fun!

Pros: Wonderful opportunities a good salaries
Cons: Too much politics currently.
