Room For Growth

Working for CTI and Pearson Institute of Higher Education has been a great pleasure, i have learnt a lot in in fields that i have not studied for like, firstly i assisted at the reception area where i assisted with the administration, then i went on to the finance side where i assisted with their administration and when student would come and pay their finances and also loading their documentation on the Sales force system. Currently i am the Higher Education Consultant, there my duties are as following, i do Presentation at high schools to the grade 12 and advise them about the different types of courses we have to offer. We interview the students and give them Career guidance, register them with Pearson. we also offer them Provisional Acceptance Letters and send them to the schools. On Wednesday we also do the our admin. We even have Road shows and assist student and parents with registering . one thing that i love about this job are the monthly targets of registration and the rewards we get.

Pros: Commission we get for the registration we get
Cons: Consequences when we do not reach target

Excellent Learning Curve

The role of the Higher Education Consultant is the following, Presentations- informing student about the different types of careers Pearson has to offer. Call students to come in for an interview and register the student after they are sure about the career they want to study. Make sure they meet their target. each HEC has a monthly registration target to meet do they plan outreaches to meet the student and parent half way and then plan how many registrations they can get. Another activity they have to do every Wednesday is administration, there we provide the students with provisional acceptance letter to the student also load a lead. we are given a day to do all the administration that is required. one of the things i enjoy is the targets i have not done sales before and the targets are showing me what i am capable of and i love competing with myself. things that i have learnt is how to sell the product and assist the student with the right career choice.

Pros: The Incentive for making target and also assisting students with career Guidance
Cons: Consequences when we do not reach target

I love what i do, Sales/Marketing, customer service and business developement

My day starts at 8am sharp, i normally plan my week days in advance but as we know in sales we need to be flexible and take on many challenges at once. Ill call my stakeholders to book appointments, book new business and follow up on current clients. I go out to schools to chat to students, grade heads and life orientation teachers and i also set up presentation date so that i can see groups of clients at once. I work very well with my co-workers, we work as a team and as individuals Iv learnt so much in my current job due to the fact that this is the first time I'm in this industry, iv learnt to think differently and how to approach clients in a more specific way. I enjoy helping young minds with making the decision wrt what they what to study and give them career advice. The challenge is converting a registered student into an enrolled student.

Pros: Being able to positively affect the life of a young student
Cons: Not having the right product ie a particular degree that the student might want to study

Great learning curve. Offered a great opportunity with more then two promotions.

I am currently supervising a team of 5 credit control administrators. The team contacts parents who have not paid tuition fees for their students. I hold weekly meeting with the team to share stats and motivate the team, as well as address any issues that may have arrived that week. I prepare reports on a daily that is shared with management and campus director. I also get the opportunity to sit with parents and students to discuss payment arrangements, I also attend to queries logged, once resolved contact the parents /students. I work in an open plan office with other employees doing revenue. I enjoy interacting with different people on a daily, getting to know and understand different characters. The most challenging aspect of my job is dealing with parents who are facing financial difficulties as well their own personal issues, some are honest and share all, finding a balance to be professional and be humane can be hard, but i do feel i have managed very well to handle it.

Pros: I have been promoted 3 times in the same company
Cons: registration period is long and stressful

Excellent Learning Curve

The daily duties that the HEC does the following. Conduct presentations at the schools informing the student about the different courses we have to offer, call the students of the different event we have every month, Invite prospects for interview and register them for the following year. We also plan outreaches, there each HEC meets up with the students and the parents and they fill out documentation. Each HEC has targets every month. so it will be registration targets, interview targets and call target. We also have an administration day where we have to load the registration, load leads and also do proof of registration for the student. That is the daily routine of an HEC

Pros: Commission we get for the registration we get
Cons: Consequences when we do not reach target

Excellent learning curve.

Diversity in roles. Poor working conditions. Disappointing incentives. Lack of trust in the organisation. Poor managers. Too much favouritism : some employees undervalued while others are overvalued. Nepotism.

Pros: High potential to succeed of processes are followed.
Cons: Too much reliance on one person to fulfill too many roles. Too much cost saving. Employees not valued.

Learnt new skills & improved my communication skills

A typical day at work is firstly communicating with my colleagues before proceeding with the tasks I have to complete. My colleagues are much more experienced in terms of the skills and understanding of the organisation therefore, I've learnt a great deal from them and have helped to improve my work ethic. My tasks at work are meeting with students to solve any complaint or struggle that they may be facing, this has been an incredible experience as it has allowed me to see and understand different personalities as well as thinking strategically to not only solve the problem at hand but also finding a long term solution. I have also learnt how to organize data, created new spread sheets that will be user friendly for others to use and data analysis on Microsoft Excel.

Pros: Improved communication skills, administrative skills and great co-workers
Cons: Not compensated for working over-time
