Challenging but Rewarding

My typical day is somewhat structured as I have managed to put together a level of order within the department. Due to the fact that I work in Retail and Head a Marketing Department with only 15 employees supporting 62 branches located country-wide, the "fire-fighting" and "hand-holding" can get a bit intense at times. This obviously leads to longer hours than usual because the only opportunity I get to actually do my work is after hours. I have a fairly good relationship with my co-workers, although as we all know, when you hold the "purse strings", you need to be very firm when it comes to unstructured requests for marketing spend support. What I learnt in the first few months is that a lot of my colleagues and other team members from other departments don't think through the strategic way in which Marketing money should be spent - it should be more strategic and less tactical in order for it to have a positive impact on the growth of any business.

Pros: My line manager (COO) is very confident in my abilities and allows me to run my department, in a largely autonomous manner.
Cons: Stressful working environment which can be attributed to both the environment, but also to the fact that I work with many people who have been in their roles for double-digit years.

Excellent Learning curve

Each day is couple with a list of jobs assigned to an analyst programmer that have to be met at stipulated times. One have a local copy of workspace at your pc, where individual perform a task from the task list website platform. When you complete your task you commit to an svn repository. After QA testing the QA manager closes the task.

Pros: Job security and exciting working invironment
Cons: Adamant to adopt new technology

I LEARN A LOT AND HAVE EXPERIENCE

I MEET DIFFERENT PEOPLE/CUSTOMERS EVERY DAY AND I HAVE LEARNT TO HANDLE THEM WELL. I HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH MY CO-WORKERS AND NOW I SEE THEM AS PART OF MY FAMILY. I ENJOY TALKING TO MY CUSTOMERS AND HANDLING THEIR GRIEVANCES. HANDLING OR TALKING TO AN ANGRY CUSTOMER IS THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT OF MY JOB.

Pros: I HAVE AN OPPORTUNTY OF GETTING A PROMOTION
Cons: LONG WORKING HOURS
