Gauteng Department of Agriculture And Rural Development Reviews

Challenging environment to work in as it gives you an opportunity to learn everyday

Working at the Gauteng Department of Agriculture has been great, with each day presenting new challenges and learning experiences. The people are very welcoming and have taught me a lot especially where Human Resources Management is concerned. I am now able to do whole organisation employment equity reports, basic administration and recruitment and selection. We use a system of rotation among interns so as to cover all the HR Functions which makes it easy for us to learn as much as possible.

Pros: Exposure to Human Resources Management and Agriculture
Cons: Less opportunities for a permanent Job

Excellent communication with the management

Every day I have to do planning you can't start a lesson without planning. I have to do managing in the class as a teacher and the class management start by cleaning of the class, make the rules off the class but must be clear and simple to the learner and paste it in the notice board and dealing with discipline in learners make the consequences clear before learners misbehaving and keeping learners engaged by trying new things call learners regularly and they have to pay attention

Pros: you get experience and promoting to level 2
Cons: simetimes long hours

Great opportunity to learn but also apply previous skills and experience.

Role aligned perfectly to my career path ambitions as a procurement specialist as it afforded me the opportunity to fully immerse myself in my role as a Deputy Director in Procurement by dealing with strategic issues more proactively. Great learnings and support from leadership and opportunity to lead and coach subordinates. My previous skills and experience as a Management Consultant assisted a great deal in the identification of risks and opportunities for business process improvements.

Pros: Great support from Leadership
Cons: Long working hours due to shortage of staff

Broad extension on the Environmental sector

Good working hours with limited work on geology and soul science, mostly working with mathematics and science, the experience is well worth the hours and the stipend is greatly appreciated on my side, it covered my necessities on life and the travel to site inspections, not many connections made as a government employee

Pros: Good working hours
Cons: Not enough learning on soil science
