Working for Exxaro for the first five years were wonderful. Management Team a staff were superb.
Working for Exxaro was a wonderful time in my life especially for the first five years. One cannot ask for a great Management Team with such great respect and support. This was my first encounter in Mining and working for such a large Mining Corporation. Going to work was almost an extension of the my family especially living on my own while based in Lephalele. Part of my success was also have a great Team assuring every team member had a key role to play and his and her task portfolio was just as important as the rests of the Mine. Having to share my knowledge and experiences from my past was a major contributing factor to my success, giving every team member an opportunity to run my Section when I was away on business. People loved this as they never ever experienced an calm and happy environment. I have enjoyed every moment working with this Team as they were willing to do do what ever it takes to make our Section a seccess.
Pros: Ample opportunities to individuals who had the qualifications , unfortunately I did not take advantage.
Cons: Working in remote areas with lack of culture and not having family support

Typical day work as project engineering manager
working at EXXARO has been very interesting. I held various positions and worked at their various business units in operations and project. Currently, as a project engineering manager and a 2.13.3.1 appointee, my daily task is to mange design consultants, contractors and vendors. Integration of owners team, contractors, design consultants and vendors. Review technical information, Conduct HAZOPs, Ensure construction is done in accordance with drawing and specification. Answer technical queries, concession and audit reviews. Management of design budget, review enquiry and make recommendation, appointment and management of discipline engineers. Involve in commissioning and implementation of mine health and safety regulation.
Pros: Great team work, high safety culture, appreciation of family values.
Cons: Favoritism towards specific employees. Turns to employ same family members. People are not held accountable and disciplinary action are sometime not always applied

Excellent learning opportunity
My typical work day includes drafting and managing RFQ submissions and manage commercial construction contracts in accordance with PMBok, NEC, Fidic or JBCC procedures. I have a great relationship with my team members over the past two years we've manage to achieve project goals by working together as a unit. What i enjoy most about working in the mining and construction industry is that you get an insight on so many aspects of this field The most challenging aspects of this job is reaching project schedule dates on time and to make sure that scheduled scopes of works are completed as per FOP and POP dates .

Exxaro provides a safe and secure environment for its employees. We have a family like working environment. They are demanding but always gives rewards for commitment and dedication

Role and responsability of a project administrator within the current environment - mining
Current position entails the distribution and uploading of all project related info onto the project portfolio. Assisting the project managers with all project related documentation and info with regard to the budget of the project. Organising all project meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Responsible for the taking of minutes on all project meetings. Building of relationships with all resources involved on the project to ensure that the project is delivered within the expected timeframe and within budget.
Pros: Wide variety of projects - small to mega projects
Cons: Working on more than one project at a time can be challenging at times.

Looking for new opportunities
A typical day at work would entail ensuring the security of supply of critical commodities like fuel, lubricants electricity, separation media to the various mines on a corporate level. Being in charge of these critical commodities leads to job satisfaction as no Mine ran dry since I have been managing these Commodities. It gives me great pleasure to assist the other team members and share my expertise with them. Helping them to reach their targets.

Excellent experience, challenges and pleasant environment.
Throughout my journey at my employer I had excellent growth opportunities. I am able to work within a team and also on my own. I enjoyed working with the Financial aspects and really learnt alot. I had the best managers I ever could have asked for. My typical work day will be to prioritise tasks by making a list and mark tasks from most to less urgent with deadline dates. I am able to work under pressure.
