Perfect learning experience

Woking at emfuleni was great got to learn how things are done in the corporate world, learned the process of buying for an organization that's what I mostly enjoyed doing, got to assist all managers in the Suppy Chain department with various tasks and they always said I made their life easy, which was challenging cause most of the processes and procedures I didn't know but I was able to perform at my best ability in an everyday task or assignment

Pros: Perfect opportunity for growth
Cons: Long working hours

Working with people, educating public about local authority, solving problems.

Working with people it's a very nice thing ever in life, educating them, opening their minds. Helping them with their buildings so they may know that whats on the building must be what we see on site. Educating them about the deviations, on how to deal with them.

Pros: Contractors always recommend my work
Cons: Difficult public however I always managed to deal with them

Knowledge of project implementation process, and contractor management

Usually the day starts with checking emails, and reminding and follow up on those who have assigned tasks site visits to check if contractors are progressing accordingly and work practices are according to standard

Pros: Good exposure to infrastructural projects
Cons: No challenge

Very difficult for them to appoint permanent you if not politically connected.

Need political connections to be appointed permanently, however if academically qualified they'll appoint in a temporary position out of fear that you may be their senior in the future.

Pros: Get to help the community
Cons: Limited growth potential

No growth associated with the big organisation.

This company is a good company to work for, if given the resources and equipment to do your work. It is a frustrating situation because resources and equipment are not provided. Shortage of personnel.

Pros: Looking for growth and utilisation of my qualifications.
Cons: Unsafe working environment.

Different workspace

My current workplace is a nice place to be at but not for a person like me how really enjoys challenges ad a real hard worker. I do not believe in a company where staff appreciation is not taken into consider or staff is less appreciated. Growth of each individual is important to staff and as well as training of members. so far nothing is enjoyable or challengeable because now I am used to everyday routine of my work!

Pros: working less hours
Cons: under appreciation of staff

First Post Grad Job - Great Place

When things are quiet they are really quiet here. But as soon as work on sites begin, there is minium time for anything else but work. At the senior technical post you are expected to be the extended arn of senior management. Anywhere they cannot be you fill their shoes. I was groomed to manage not only projects but people - angry community members, disgruntled contractors and consultants. Being bombarded wirh meetings and deadlines is the name of the game. Failure is not an option. Its either you get it done or don't show up. Gladiators is what you are when you work for government.

Pros: Great people to work with
Cons: Long work hours
