A day in the life of an assistant superintendent

My responsibilities include leading, planning and coordinating all operations of the plant and relevant reclamation sites to ensure maximum productivity and extraction rates by optimizing and managing mining methods, procedures and equipment. I am responsible for the execution of mining operations through plant operational and administrative controls, troubleshooting and to provide metallurgical technical support to meet safety, quality, volume and cost targets.I enjoy a good relationship with my co-workers and we support one another well. What I have learnt the most over the last two years is the importance of being a good role model and leading by example to your co-workers, especially your subordinates, because as a manager, you set the tone/ culture for your workplace.

Pros: Stability
Cons: Few opportunitiies for promotion and growth

Great experience I have had

It was quite an amazing experience they have given me really as I have learnt to work alone, under pressure,as a team player and the importance of time-once you stop a pump to "illusion" for just a few minutes management would be here wanting to know what's wrong...

Pros: Empowering employees by educating/training them
Cons: Very old fashioned

Little salary

I have a b-tech in extraction metallurgy with over 6 years working experience. I am earning less that R40k a month which i believe it is too little. The growth in this company is to not that broad and chances of getting promotion are very slim. I have been doing one thing since joining the company 3 years back. People around here have given up and they are only at work to get paid.

Pros: Long term future
Cons: No definite reporting structure
